Brief Company Profile:
The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking to recruit a dynamic and
experienced Agricultural Economist to support its project/research activities
in potato and sweetpotato in Sub—Sahara Africa (SSA) region.
The Center: CIP is a not—for-profit international agricultural research organization
with a global mandate to conduct research on genetic resources of potatoes,
sweetpotato, and other Andean roots and tubers, crop genetic enhancement and
improvement, integrated crop management and sustainable management of natural
resources.
The Position:
The position will based in the CIP country office in Kampala, Uganda, but
will involve supporting CIP activities in SSA countries.
Duties and responsibilities:
The Research Associate will support the implementation and impact
assessment of CIP project activities in the SSA in, among others:
carrying out monitoring and evaluation; designing and implementing
household and market surveys; entry, cleaning and analysis of large
socioeconomic datasets; reviewing literature; and drafting scientific reports,
conference papers, journal articles and policy briefs.
Requirements:
M.Sc. degree in economics, agricultural economics or applied economics
with strong quantitative skills (i.e., mathematics, econometrics, and statistics), research
methods; fluency in CS Pro, SPSS, and STATA; excellent teamwork, supervision,
oral and writing skills; and ability to work in multicultural/multidisciplinary
environments.
Experience:
At least two years of demonstrated work experience in similar positions and
experience in: value chain analysis;

conducting monitoring and evaluation;
·
designing household and market surveys;
·
coordinating and supervising data collection under different socio-cultural
environments;
·
analysis of complex single and panel datasets in SPSS and/or STATA);
·
and preparation of scientific reports and papers (as evidenced by
publications).
Conditions:
The employment will be for a two—year term (with 3-month probation),
renewable contingent upon individual performance and funding.
