Background
Information:
The MRC/UVRI Uganda Virus Research Unit on AIDS was
established as a joint effort between the Uganda Government to United Kingdome
Government on the research of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection and
AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).
The Unit is a center of excellence in HIV/AIDS related
research. It conducts large-scale epidemiological and intervention studies,
clinical trials, virological and immunological research and behavioural
studies, and has generated a wealth of research results that have been used to
inform policy and practice, and that have led to a large number of scientific
publications in peer reviewed journals over time. The Unit is based at Uganda
Virus Research Institute (UVRI) in Entebbe and invites applications from
suitably qualified Ugandans to fill position of:
Job Purpose:
To ensure the continued availability and serviceability of
HVAC equipment and liquid nitrogen for the MRC facilities in Entebbe, Masaka,
Kyamulibwa and Kampala while also Providing maintenance support for freezers,
air conditioners, the nitrogen plant and tanks for the MRC laboratories and
clinics.
Roles &
Responsibilities:
• Inspect
and keep in good order, the Unit's HVAC installations to ensure their continued
availability and serviceability.
• Monitor
the status of the nitrogen plant and nitrogen stocks at the MRC Entebbe
facility.
• Monitor
the service hours' status of MRC nitrogen plant, air conditioners and freezers.
• Carries
out routine service of freezers, water stills, air conditioners and generators
in Entebbe.
• Ensures
the safety of the MRC workshop facility in Entebbe.
• Quickly
responds to electrical installation and HVAC
faults reported in Entebbe and the field stations in Masaka, Kyamulibwa and
Kampala.
• Ensures
that the sam pie temperature monitoring system is operational and produce
test-runs weekly.
• Checks on
the operation/working order oftoilets, doors, windows, fasteners, switches and
the general condition of all Entebbe MRC buildings.
Education, Skills and
Experience needed:
• A diploma in refrigeration and air
conditioning from a recognised institution.
• Minimum
of 3 years practical experience in a busy
industrial setting is required.
• Proficiency
in computer use required.
Terms and conditions:
Successful applicants will serve a 2 year(s) contract with a
possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and availability of
funds, inclusive of a 6 months' probation
Other terms and conditions for this position are specified
in the MRC staff code. A good salary commensurate with qualifications and
experience will be offered to the successful candidate.
