Brief Company Profile:
National Crop Resources Research Institute (NaCCRI) announces a job opening
for a Media & Public Relations Officer to work with the Uganda Bioscience
Information Center (UBIC). The Officer will contribute to the planning and delivery
of UBIC’s outreach activities. The incumbent will carve out new pathways and
relationships to exchange knowledge and information among diverse target
audiences.
Duties and responsibilities :
The Media & Public Relations Officer under the supervision of the
Coordinator will:
• Enhance the development, packaging, and dissemination of messages of
information to targeted audiences’ including farmers’ associate and
religious/cultural leaders through existing channels
• Strategize, create, and execute an institutional/ national/international
media engagement plan
• Identify, and upon approval engage, nontapped channels for implementing
awareness campaigns
• Interact with other bioscience communication initiatives to identify and
encourage partnerships for effectively delivering the messages to target
audiences
• Provide monitoring, valuation, and reports on communication activities
• Work with the fi nance office to develop and handle related budgets
• Handle any other duties assigned by the UBIC Coordinator.
Education and Experience:
1. Post-secondary degree in Communications, Journalism, Sales and
Marketing, Extension Services or related fields is preferred.
2. 3+ years of experience earned in media, marketing, communications,
outreach and/or public relations.
3. Excellent relationship-building skills among communicators across
different sectors.
4. Record of earned media coverage at national and international levels.
5. Record of successful social media/online engagement will be an added
advantage.
6. Working experience from different parts of Uganda will also be an added
advantage.
Hours of Work:
8-hours a day, 5-days a week although additional hours will be required
occasionally. Expected start date July 28, 2014.
Work Conditions:
UBIC main offices are located at National Crops Resources Research
Institute (NaCRRI), Namulonge, 9 km Gayaza-Zirobwe road. Majority of the
work-time will be spent in the field.
