Position Title: Project Assistant, SGBV:
The main function of the PA for SGBV is to assist DCA Programme Officer and
Programme Coordinator in the overall field coordination in the implementation
and coordination of the project entitled To Protect and Promote Women and
Girl’s Rights through Prevention and Response to Sexual Gender Based Violence
among Female Genital Mutilation Practicing Communities in Southern Karamoja.
This two-year project is funded by a European Union grant (EuropeAid). Project
activities will take place in Amudat, Moroto and Nakapiripirit Districts in
Karamoja among the Tepeth and Kadama communities, and will be implemented in a
DCA-led consortium comprising three other organizations namely Italian
Cooperation and Development (C&D), Reproductive, Educative and
Community Health (REACH) and the Human Rights Network (HURINET).
Reporting: to the Programme Coordinator through the
Programme Officer.
Duty Stations: Moroto (90% time); Kampala
(10% time), with frequent travel to Nakapiripirit and Amudat districts.
Non-family posting.
Main tasks:
• Assist the Regional Representative in branding and communications efforts
and in managing the content of media work in Uganda and internationally with
particular focus on Denmark.
• Support and build capacity on communication and media to DCA programme
staff and partner organisations, including in relation to advocacy campaigns.
• Build and maintain relations with media, communities and others in order
to plan and facilitate visits and the production of stories.
• ‘Editor’ of DCA intranet, social media and websites
• In close cooperation with media teams in Denmark to identify and prepare
case stories from partners’ projects and ensure that text, photo/video material
is available for publications and reports.
• Assist in the implementation of the project visibility plan and provide
inputs to possible visibility actions, e.g. writing of articles, pictures, DCA
website etc.
• Support partners liaising and coordination with all relevant stakeholders
and support the strengthening of referral pathways where possible and needed.
• Identify and share with partners’ best practices for improvement of the
project.
• Work in close collaboration with all relevant DCA staff and contribute to
the overall objectives and programmes of DCA.
• Secure a strong mainstreaming of a rights-based and gender-inclusive
approach within the action.
Key qualifications / Experience:
• A university degree in the field of Social Sciences e.g. Social Work,
Development Management with good working knowledge of human rights, HIV/AIDS,
gender issues, project management and social behavioral change.
• Proven experience and direct involvement in the implementation of
project(s) using behavioral change methodologies.
• At least 3 years of direct experience in some other fields relevant for
this project, in particular: duty-bearer and rights-holder engagement,
advocacy, community participatory approaches.
• Strong report writing skills both narrative and financial.
• Confirmed experience in gender mainstreaming and rights-based approaches,
both theoretically and in practice.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, and capacity to work with a
partner-based approach.
• Flexible, pro-active, self-motivated and able to organize work
independently as well as be willing to work within a team.
• Proficiency of Microsoft Office required.
• Fluency in English (verbal and written).
• Fluency in Ngakaramojong is an advantage but not a requirement.
• Knowledge of the Karamoja and Pokot socio-economic and cultural contexts
and national legislation, in particular in gender responsive laws.
• Experience in field operations of EU-funded projects in an advantage.
Position Title: Communications and
Relations Officer (CO)
The Communications and Relations Officer (CO) will be responsible for
visibility, information and documentation for internal and external use, as
well as building and maintaining external relations, particularly to facilitate
visits to the office, partners and projects. The CO will also be spearheading
and implementing a new Communication Strategy for DCA in Uganda.
Reporting to: directly to the Regional Representative.
Duty station: Kampala 60% with frequent
travel (40%) to Karamoja, Adjumani and South-Western Uganda.
Main tasks:
• Assist the Regional Representative in branding and communications efforts
and in managing the content of media work in Uganda and internationally with
particular focus on Denmark.
• Ensure that DCA and partners fulfill the contractual obligations on
visibility for projects funded by international donors.
• Documentation for accountability and facilitation of programmatic
learning to key stakeholders incl. donors, government, partners, beneficiaries
and the general public, e.g. annual report, programme/project fact sheets,
web-site, etc.
• In close cooperation with media teams in Denmark to identify and prepare
case stories from partners’ projects and ensure that text, photo/video material
is available for publications and reports.
• Be responsible for providing support and capacity building on
communication and media to DCA programme staff and partner organisations.
• Build and maintain relations with media, communities and others in order
to facilitate visits and the production of stories.
• Plan, organise and support visitors, e.g. major/corporate donors, HQ
staff, media, volunteers, students etc.
• Research, documentation and coordination support to partners in relation
to national and international advocacy campaigns.
• ‘Editor’ of DCA intranet, social media and websites
Your key qualifications and experience:
• Master Degree in communications, journalism or other relevant educational
background.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in communication work from media,
private sector or (I) NGOs.
• Outstanding written and spoken English.
• Ability to communicate complex development issues in a popular manner.
• Strong organizational skills, with ability to meet deadlines.
• Technical skills in the use of social media for effective communications.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Documented research and writing skills for producing inputs - both text,
and photos - to various media including newspapers, websites and magazines.
• Hands on experience with photographing and simple video productions.
Personal qualities:
• Demonstrates initiative, flexibility and ability to find pragmatic
communication solutions.
• Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
• Knowledge of main issues at stake vis-à-vis development and civil society
in Uganda and the region.
