PATH is engaging in research studies in 2014 and 2015, involving both quantitative and qualitative data collection for this we are seeking to recruit a Program Officer to support implementation of research activities (50%) and general projects activities (50%) in the Sayana Press project. An individual with experience in overseeing data collection and monitoring of studies .This individual will also assist with program implementation, including training and monitoring of VHT activities, under the supervision of the Sayana Press Project Coordinator.
(S) He will be responsible for the following research-related activities:
Research planning and organization:
- Organize translation of study materials (instruments and consent forms) and ensure accuracy.
- Usher study materials through the local IRB process.
- Liaise with the District Health Team in selected evaluation districts.
- Participate in planning and organization of training workshops for data collectors/interviewers.
- Implement plan to pre-test data collection instruments and finalize revised instruments.
- Participate in the development of SOPs to guide data collection;
- Assist with the recruitment and hiring of data collectors and qualitative interviewers.
Research field work:
- Work closely with a local research organization in implementing two large household surveys (baseline and follow up).
- Monitor data collection in the field for a longitudinal survey of injectable clients.
- Monitor qualitative data collection (in-depth interviews).
- Monitor transmission of data from field to PATH offices in Kampala and Seattle.
- Conduct data checks for quality assurance.
- Coordinate and resolve issues as they arise, in consultation with the PATH Research Coordinator and Study PIs, to assure effective implementation of the evaluation plan.
Program implementation duties:
- Provide regular support to the Sayana Press coordinator in the implementation of the project
- Support the Sayana Press team in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the training program.
- Work with partners to monitor and give technical backstopping to VHTs who will be administering Sayana Press and DMPA IM
- Promote linkages with local district administration including health facilities in participating district.
- Ensure quality assurance
- Any other duties that may be assigned.
Required Skills
- Background in medical sciences and Masters in public health, epidemiology, statistics, population studies or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in health and population based research.
- Demonstrated skills in quantitative data collection.
- Experience organizing and/or facilitating training
- Attention to detail and demonstrated organizational ability
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with local and international project team.
- Willingness to travel domestically up to 75%
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills; fluency in written and spoken English.
Required Experience
Demonstrated skills in qualitative research,experience with family planning service delivery,experience with quantitative or qualitative data analysis, experience training community health workers.
