OFFICER
Reports to :
Manager Legal and Compliance
Job Purpose :
To ensure the
provision of legal services and in the job compliance with the provisions of
the Insurance Act Cap 213) Laws of Uganda, 2000.
Key areas of
responsibility:
1. To assess legal implications in the Authority’s dealings with
the insurance companies, other operators who carry on other business which
falls within the purview of the Insurance Act (Cap 21`3) Laws of Uganda, 2000 (Insurance
Act) and the public.
2. To interpret the Insurance Act and to assist in the enforcement
together with its related regulations as need may arise.
3. To assist running the Complaints Bureau provided for in
the Insurance Act.
4. To monitor enactments of laws and regulations and assess
their impact on the operations of the Authority.
5. To propose and/or draft the required laws.
6. To provide legal advice to the Authority.
7. To review insurance proposals and policy forms.
8. To carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time
to time.
Person Specifications
An Honors LLB Degree with a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal
practice with at least three (3) years’ experience in legal practice, (legal
drafting and/or civil litigation) in a reputable firm/organisation.
Personal attributes and competences:
• Strong computer skills.
• Ability to work under minimum supervision.
• Analyzing and interpreting skills
• Good planning and organizing skills
Position :
INSPECTION OFFICER LIFE
Reports to :
Manager Insurance
Purpose of : To
ensure compliance with the provisions of the job Insurance Act (Cap 213) Laws
of Uganda, 2000 and the Regulations thereof.
Key areas of
responsibility:
1. Carry-out off-site and on-site inspection of life insurance
companies, insurance brokers, loss assessors/adjusters.
2. Review licence applications for insurance companies, insurance
brokers, loss assessors/adjusters and
insurance agents.
3. Respond to and follow-up on issues raised in inspection
and other correspondence with insurance
players.
4. Monitor the implementation of the provisions of the Insurance
Act and advises on the adequacy of the law and regulations.
5. Review proposals and policy forms, reinsurance arrangements
and premium rates for life insurance companies.
6. Carry-out any other duties that may be assigned from time
to time.
Person
Specifications:
A relevant honors degree from a recognized University with
at least four papers of ACII or ANZIIF with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in
life insurance underwriting/ claims management. Personal attributes and
competences:
• Strong computer skills.
• Self motivated with ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
Terms of Employment
for the above posts:
(i) Period of Contract: 5 years renewable.
