Description of
Purpose:
To generate tips, story ideas, build and manage sources, and
to gather and report news in a compelling and professional manner that connects
with audiences, drives newspaper sales and advertising revenue and enhances
society
Key Result Areas
• Exercise
high levels of creativity, innovation and news awareness so as to come up with
unique story ideas that make Vision Group the market leader
• File
compelling and professional (factual, accurate, balanced and objective)
ready-to-print copy, primarily for New Vision daily, but also for online, radio
and TV in line with the integration drive
• Investigate
and write features, special reports and analyses to give the newspaper an edge
over the competition
• Generate
and manage/maintain news sources to keep abreast with what is happening in the
field and come up with scoops
• Attend
the daily editorial planning meetings to review the day's paper, share news
tips and generate new ideas.
• Ensure
assignments are executed promptly and
articles submitted in time in coherent, well-structured language (English) that
meets the newspapers' standards.
• Engage
and work together with editors and subeditors to get feedback on the available
space, the quality of the stories and to answer queries about the copy and how
to improve it
• Participate
and contribute to the formulation and implementation of New Vision editorial
strategy to ensure audience and revenue growth and ensuring advancement of
society
Qualifications,
Skills and Experience
• A
Bachelor's degree from a recognized University preferably in Mass Communication
.
• Proficiency
in written and spoken English.
• Computer
literacy especially in Microsoft Word and Adobe Photoshop.
• At least
a working experience of 2 years as a journalist.
• Ability
to work under tight deadlines .
• Ability
to work across multi-media platforms.
• Good
network with news sources.
• Quick and
innovative, with an eye for news
• Aggressive,
outgoing and social person.
