Job Pourpose:
The position of Principal is a senior post in the University created to give Leadership to a Constituent College of Makerere University. A Principal is appointed to hold office for a term offour (4) years that may be renewed once.

Background Information:
Makerere University seeks to fill the position of Principal in the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT). The Colleges of Makerere University are semi-autonomous academic units which contain Schools, Academic, Institutes and Departments which carry out both General and Professional Training as well as carrying out Research in various disciplines. This advertisement is for the above position which has been vacant since January 2012.
Eligibility:
The person eligible for appointment should possess the following minimum attributes:
(i)            Hold a PhD or other academic Doctorate or Masters in Clinical discipline;
(ii)           Be at least of the rank of Associate Professor or its equivalent at the time of application;
(iii) Four (4) years managerial ability in Institution of Higher Learning or Research Institution with a track record of having served as Head of Academic Department or as Academic Programmes Coordinator or Research Project Manager.
(iv) Teaching experience of four (4) years in at least one of the disciplines offered in the College he/ she intends to lead.
(v) Be at least 40 years old and not beyond 61 years at the time of applying.
(vi) Be a citizen of Uganda.


Job Description:
The Principal shall be the Chief Administrative, Academic and Financial Officer of the College and shall be responsible to Senate and the University Council for promoting and maintaining academic management excellence, efficiency and effectiveness and for order in the College.
