WANTED: SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT OFFICER-Jobs in Uganda


Post Title:SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT OFFICER

A mine located in Manafwa District, Eastern Uganda seeks to engage the services of an experienced Safety, Health and Environment Officer. The job and person specifications are provided below.
Job Functions:
The incumbent will be required among other things, to achieve the following;
i. Promote occupational health, safety and environmental programmes at the mine

ii. Conduct Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) training programmes for management, supervisors and employees
iii. Carry out risk assessments and HSE audits, recommend necessary remedial action to management and carry out the required remedial actions
iv. Ensure organisational compliance with all HSE related national legislation in Uganda
v. Help supervise the investigation of occupational accidents and incidents and generate action plans
aimed at preventing the recurrence of similar incidence.
vi. Assist management in developing and implementing an operation specific Behaviour Based Safety management system.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate would have the following attributes and qualifications;
i. At least a degree in environmental science or any other acceptable qualification in Occupational Health and Safety
ii. Minimum 2 – 3 years’ experience in a similar position in mining or in a heavy manufacturing industry setting
iii. Must be a mature and self-motivated individual capable of working with minimum supervision
iv. Knowledge and experience of working with HSE systems such as OHSAS, NOSA e.t.c will be a distinct advantage
v. Must be computer literate.
vi. Ability to communicate in the local language (Lumasaba) is critical for this position and will be a distinct advantage.
