World Vision Uganda (WVU) is a Christian Relief, Development and Advocacy Non-Governmental
Organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. We currently work in over 40 districts in Uganda. Purpose of the position:
To provide technical oversight to the infrastructure (“hardware”) and hardware-related sustainability
components of World Vision Uganda’s water, sanitation and hygiene promotion (WASH) interventions in Karamoja, under the SUSTAIN Program.
Key responsibilities:
• To implement infrastructure-related interventions in
line with the project work plan (i.e. on time and of
adequate quality).
• To implement appropriate strategies in ensuring that
sustainability issues are related to infrastructure are
addressed
• Ensure that the target communities and schools are
adequately mobilized and have sufficient buy-in to the
process of infrastructure development.
• Network with the local government (e.g. District Water
Office) to identify, assess, and follow-up with target
communities and schools.
• To be the primary link with the Mercy Corps economic
development team to identify and support privatesector
WASH opportunities.
• Manage the Engineering Assistant position to ensure that adequate field supervision is carried out for all construction works.
• Coordinate closely with the Behaviour Change Specialist around key sustainability issues related
to operation, maintenance, and ownership of WASH infrastructure
• Provide technical support to infrastructure issues, as they arise, in order to mitigate challenges to delivering a quality product on time.
• Follow up and liaison with Procurement Office in National Office and service providers (drilling
companies) during drilling and installation of the boreholes and construction of the cattle troughs.
Experience, Qualifications and Skills
• University Degree in Water and Sanitation-related Engineering
• At least 2 years of previous experience in WASH Projects, preferably within an NGO.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Local language skills are an asset.
• Strong computer skills and ability to write technical reports.
• Strong data management skills.
• Experience working in Karamoja is preferred.
• Motorcycle riding skills are an asset.
• Knowledge of GIS mapping software is an added advantage
• A mature and committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
