The position reports to the Country Director and is
a member of the extended country management team. The successful
candidate will be responsible for providing strategic and
technical leadership
to Plan’s communication work in Uganda, ensuring
that Country communication activities support Plan Uganda’s
Country Strategic Plan, regional and global communication priorities.
Plan Uganda is
growing its programmes significantly and is
increasing investment in advocacy, campaigning, programme communications
and behaviour change communications. The Communications
Manager will be responsible for leading development
of a new Communications Strategy and establishment and
supervision of a Communications Team at the country office that will
handle all
communications work for programmes covering 20
districts totaling $20 million annually.
The incumbent will be expected to have frequent
travels within the country.
Qualifications /Skills/Experience:
• Bachelors degree in communication, public
relations or related field. Master or any other post graduate
qualification is added advantage.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in
behavioural change, and/or social marketing
• In-depth knowledge of current communications
issues and trends, particularly in the humanitarian sector
• Good knowledge of how the media and journalists
work nationally
• Demonstrated ability to write well
• Added advantage if a member of the Uganda
