Security Guard

Position Title Security Guard Grade General Service Duration of Assignment Three months – possibility of extension Duty Station Kampala Starting Date As soon as possible.

General functions:

Under the general supervision of the Chief of Mission in IOM Kampala, and the direct supervision of the Logistics/ Security Assistant and in close coordination with the VIPPU, the incumbent will be responsible to ensure safety of IOM premises, staff and Assets.


Responsibilities and Accountabilities


  •     Control, authorize and monitor entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to maintain security of premises
  •     Monitor and ensure that all staff clock in and out every time they report to the office.
  •     Contact staff in the departments and inform them of their visitors and direct the visitors accordingly.
  •     Ensure all visitors entering/leaving the office premises are thoroughly screened. Any dangerous weapons like knives and guns to be confiscated at the gate with proper documentation. The weapons should be returned when the visitor leaves the office.
  •     Responsible for monitoring the cameras and maintain a register of all visitors and vehicles getting in and out of the office premises
  •     Ensure that routine controls are conducted within the IOM grounds
  •     Patrol assigned areas; maintain continual surveillance* against fire, water leakage and any other action which could damage IOM premises or injure personnel
  •     Check that all office machines, air conditioners, lights, etc are turned off after working hours.
  •     Investigate and report all incidents on IOM grounds that involve a breach of security procedures, injuries and theft to the supervisor.
  •     Ensure that the gate is kept free from any obstructions
  •     Maintain updated directives and security personnel lists.
  •     Respond to inquiries and provide appropriate information or suggest alternate sources of information
  •     Respond to emergencies affecting the safety of the premises and notify the immediate supervisor or other designated staff immediately.
  •     Ensure that the gates are not left unguarded/ open even for a short period of time.
  •     Ensure that any unusual activity such as parking of vehicle or loitering of an individual near the gate or within the premises is immediately checked.
  •     Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  •     Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

Requirement:

    Completed a Secondary School diploma from an accredited academic institution, with one year's experience in a similar position.
