Uganda Management Institute (UMI) is a Management
Development Institution with a mission “to excel in developing sustainable
management capacity”.
It provides management training, consultancy and research
services in response to the demands of the public, private, and NGO sectors.
In addition to short performance improvement management
skills development courses, the Institute offers high quality career
development management courses at Certificate, Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma
and Higher Degree Levels.
The Institute’s activities are currently carried out at the
main campus in Kampala and its Outreach Centers
in Mbarara, Gulu and Mbale.
(a) Duties and
Responsibilities:
(i) Coordinating staff efforts to contribute to research
goals and targets set by the Institute and also support staff attain their
research interests
(ii) Designing and executing research projects and
publishing results through international peer review process.
(iii) Liaising with the teaching departments to ensure that
research products are integrated in the teaching of students at the Institute
(iv) Soliciting research funds/grants and providing staff
with general information including databases on possible sources and modes of
research funding on regular basis
(v) Organizing public debates, symposia and other events on
development issues aimed at sharing knowledge
(vi) Monitoring staff in relation to research performance
standards and guidelines and advising the institute accordingly
(b) Person Specifications
(i) A PhD in Social/Management Science related subjects
(ii) 3 years of research/teaching experience at postgraduate
level
(iii) At least 2 publications in recognized journals/books
(iv) Evidence of supervision of postgraduate degree students
will be an added advantage
