JOB TITLE: Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) Nursing officer–(1Nurse)
REPORTING TO: Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) Supervisor
DUTY STATION:  Kyotera , Mpigi, Sembabule and Kalangala
 Major Function:
This position will be required to assist the clinical officer when carrying out circumcision and provide quality
nursing care to clients coming for circumcision. He/ She will also support VMMC related training and must treat each client with dignity and respect.
Background Information
Rakai Health Sciences Program is a collaborative Bio-medical research and service delivery organization.  It strives to improve the quality of life of the local population through a combination of community based research, curative services and prevention strategies in the district of Rakai, South Western Uganda.  It is based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute – Entebbe and Kalisizo in Rakai District.

The Program is seeking to strengthen its staffing position in order to efficiently execute its research and service activities at a Regional Level.

Tasks & Responsibilities:
·    Assist clinical officers in carrying out circumcisions
·    Provide nursing care to clients attending the clinic
·    Assess clinical patient problems and triages patient under the advice of a clinical officer
·    Cleaning, disinfecting and packing  surgical instruments
·    To treat each  client with dignity, respect and understanding
·    Maintain nursing records according to mandatory legal requirements ensuring that confidentiality is maintained at all times
·    Ensure procedures are carried out safely in accordance with agreed policies
·    Any other duties as may be assigned

Education, Key Competencies and Experience:
·    Completion of Nurses Training from a recognized education institution
·    Minimum of 3 years work experience in a clinical setting
·    Experience of working in a theatre setting is an added advantage
·    Ability to effectively communicate with patients
·    Knowledge of good nursing procedures and practices
·    Ability to work in a team
·    Willingness to work extra hours
·    Must be willing to work in rural settings
