Task and Responsibilities:

Review the activities in the value chain of oil palm in Uganda and
wortdwide to identify challenges and opportunities for plant physiology
research
·
Review the literarure on oil palm to internalize the relevance of oil palm
physiology
·
Conduct experiments in appropriate environment; collect, analyze, and
interpret data and submit relevant reports. Conduct Studies to understand the
availability of land and atmosphere related resources, and their effect on
growth and deveiopment of the oil palm crop
·
Conduct studies to determine the factors that affect the availability
levels of the resources over the crops life cycle Determine any relationships
between the physiology of the crop and any other crop phenomena such as
germination, flowering, fruit ripening, pollination, sex differentiation ,
diseases, pests, quality and quantity of palm oil
·
Conduct studies to understand how environmental stresses like drought,
salinity, pollutants and high and low temperatures affect oil palm crop
productivity.
·
Study any relationships between the management practices and physiological
processes in the oil palm
·
Identify for procurement equipment and instruments for laboratory and field
use in physiological studies
·
Establish linkages with other players Istake holders that will enhance the
successful implementation of the various technology generation and dissemination
research activities Disseminate study results through farmer feedback
workshops, training workshops and sessions, conferences, seminars, brochures,
newsletters, journals, reports, media, field days and agricultural shows.

Offer training to farmers, extension personnel, university students and
interested parties on oil palm production.
Minimum QuaJifications:
A Masters Degree in Crop Science or Biological Science wtth a bias in Crop
Physiology and with at least three years worlking experience.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate that s/He has adequate knowledge
related to crop physiology, should possess good skills in experimental design,
data collection, analysis, interpretation and report writing, and willing to be
a member of a multdisciplinary team of scientists handling diverse roles on
improving oil palm productivity.
The Possession of a PhD is an added advantage.
Remuneration: All posts carry attractive salary
packages commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Tenure of Office: Two years contract renewable subject to satisfactory performance.
