Organizational Profile:
StraightTalk Foundation (STF) is a Ugandan health communication NGO
registered in 1997. It operates nationally in Uganda.
Job Purpose:
To offer care and support to expectant mothers, attending to the health
needs of the pregnant women.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
•Diagnosing. monitoring and examining women during pregnancy;
•Developing, assessing and evaluating individual programmes of care;
•Identifying high risk pregnancies and making referrals to doctors and
other medical specialists;
•Arranging and providing parenting and health education;
•Providing counseling and advice before and after screening and tests;
taking samples.pulses.temperatures and blood pressures
•Offering support and advice following events such as miscarriage,
termination, stillbirth, neonatal abnormality and neonatal death;
•Supervising and assisting mothers in labour, monitoring the condition of
the foetus and using knowledge of drugs and pain management;
•Giving support and advice on the daily care of the baby, including
breastfeedtng, bathing and making up feeds;
•Liaising with agencies and other health and social care professionals to
ensure continuity of care;
•Preparing work plans and writing activity reports.
Education and Training
A Diploma in Midwifery is essential with experience of 3 years in a medical
setting. Should be registered with the Allied Health professionals. Key skills
for midwives
•Ability to deal with emotionally charged situations
•Excellent team working skills
•Interpersonal and communication skills
•Strong observational skills
•An interest in the process of pregnancy and birth
