Background Information:
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) is established as a
Statutory Body under the Uganda Registration Services Bureau Act Cap. 210. The
Bureau is a key player in commercial and civil registrations that facilitate
private sector development and vital statistics for national planning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Owning, tracking and resolving
database related incidents and requests
·
Fulfilling requests and resolving
incidents within SLAs,
·
Reviewing service related reports
(e.g. database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure
service related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs
·
Responding to database related
alerts and escalations and coming up with strategic solutions to recurring
problems.
KEY RESULT AREAS:
Well‐developed secure and
interoperable databases are developed that meet the regulatory national and
international standards
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
An Honors Degree in any of the
following: Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems,
Information Technology, Engineering or its equivalent
A Postgraduate qualification in a
relevant discipline is an added advantage
MCDBA / MCT certification or an
equivalent industry certification is a requirement
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in
database development and support in MS SQL Server environments, troubleshooting
and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and
deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity
issues, security issues, Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using
Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and
troubleshooting tools.
KEY COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

Knowledge in a scripting language
like Power shell, VBScript, WSH
·
Solid acquaintance with windows
server, security delegation, SPNs, storage components.
·
Documentation skills for
processes and procedures ( creating KBs, run books, topology etc )
·
Knowledge of 3rd party DBA tools
and applications ( e.g. red gate, idera, SCOM, Erwin)
·
Strong knowledge of backups,
restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands,
Clustering, Database mirroring, Replication.
·
Knowledge of SQL Server tools (
Profiler, DTA, SSMS, SAC, SSCM, PerfMon, DMVs, system sprocs)
·
SQL Development and support –
ability to write and troubleshoot SQL Code and design (stored procs, functions,
tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints )
