About NHCC:
Our Client, National Housing and Construction Company Limited (NHCC) was
founded in 1964 and is a Ugandan construction and real estate management
company, partly owned by the Uganda Government. The Company’s mandate is to
increase the housing stock in the country, rehabilitate the housing industry
and encourage Ugandans to own homes in an organized environment.
Job Summary:
To advise about, design, install, and maintain cost-effective and energy
efficient systems for building services such as water, electrical lighting,
heating, air conditioning, lifts, and telecoms; and in accordance to
established procedures and best practices.
Duties
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Aassessing the electrical and
mechanical installation requirements as part of site analysis.
2) designing the layout of
energy distribution, cold & hot water supply pipes, waste water / sewage
drainage systems and ventilation systems, giving presentations and writing
reports highlighting the practical implications of the architect\’s designs.
3) drawing up plans, cost
estimates, writing briefs and reporting on progress
4) Supervise and guide Foreman,
electrical engineering assistants and plumbers to ensure that
electro-mechanical works are properly set out for contractors in a timely
manner at every critical stage of construction.
5) Ensure that proper electrical
& Mechanical workmanship and adherence to specifications/designs at
construction sites are done.
6) Ensure timely requisition of
electrical & Mechanical materials from stores and that material wastage is
kept at a minimum.
7) Ensure that Health and Safety
compliance by the work force are enforced, as well as ensure clean and safe
working environments and working conditions, energy efficiency and other
sustainability issues.
8) Interpret electrical &
Mechanical drawings and specifications, as well as prepare relevant working
sketches, as and when required.
9) Carry out measurement of
contractors’ work done for purposes of payment.
10) Negotiating contracts with
external design consultants and contractors,
11) Provide the Company’s Management,
whenever necessary, with relevant specialist,
expert and technical advice (on the basis of appropriate and
comprehensive analysis and evaluation), with regard to the Company’s investment
opportunities and projects – especially those involving Partnerships, External
Contractors and other Service Providers – as well provide the necessary
supervision, quality assurance, facilitation
and coordination of the
implementation of the
corresponding projects – with a view to ensuring their profitable success.
11) Perform any other duties as may, from time to time, be directed by the
relevant authority.
Relevant Qualifications and Experience:
1) A Degree in Electrical or
Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related and relevant discipline, from a
recognized University.
2) Full and valid membership of a
nationally, or internationally recognized professional Engineers’ Institute, or
body, such as MUIPE, is a must.
3) Specialized training, with
appropriate qualifications in Project Planning and Management, from a
recognized institution, are a must.
4) Additional qualifications in
Business Management, from a recognized institution, are desirable.
5) Proven knowledge and skills in
application of Engineering-related Software and MS Office Packages (especially
AutoCAD, Word, Excel, MS Project, and PowerPoint), are essential.
6) Working experience of 5 years as
a Building Services Engineer, or in a similar position, in a large and
reputable Construction, or Civil Works Company, or reputable Consultancy firm,
or on any other large civil works project.
7) Experience in working with
public, or private sector organizations involved in housing-related projects,
or programs, shall be an added advantage.
