Brief Company Profile:
SYPO Uganda Ltd. is a subsidiary of the Dutch NGO SYPO. Our young,
ambitious microfinance organisation provides lowthreshold business loans to
groups of women in rural parts of the Mukono and Buikwe districts through a
network of small semi-independent branches.
The main responsibilities of a compliance officer are:
• Random checks on loan applications submitted by Loan Officers to verify
existence of client and business, and to ensure appraisal was performed
thoroughly
• Review of loan applications in the MIS and approval of complete and solid
loan applications
• Verifying compliance with credit policies and procedures by monitoring
activities related to client training, disbursements, repayments, defaulter
follow-up and other routine lending activities
• Reviewing whether fully repaid loans meet requirements for loan
completion and processing this in the MIS
• Verifying zone financial administration and evidence in support of zone
expenses
• Verifying proper filing of all loan, finance and other relevant documentation
• Performing of weekly reconciliations of bank and portfolio transactions
of all zones, and follow-up with loan officer if necessary
• Monitoring the MIS for accuracy and completeness
• Compiling of weekly audit reports for the organisation’s management
• Actively participating in regular team meetings
• Performing the tasks of a loan officer if temporarily required
• Collaborating closely with all loan officers to ensure success and health
of all zones
Required Qualifications, Competencies and Attributes:
Suitable candidates should have a related academic degree and one to three
years of relevant work experience in compliance, internal audit or micro
finance management. Candidates should be enthusiastic about working in a rural
setting and open to travel within the district.
Candidates should be fluent in both
Luganda (spoken) and English (written and spoken).
We expect our compliance officer to be able to work independently and
pro-actively with limited supervision.
Successful candidates will be detailed-oriented, have strong computer
skills, and basic knowledge of financial MIS and accounting.
