Brief Company Profile:
The AIDS Support Organization (TASO) Uganda , an organisation contributing
to a process of preventing HIV infection, restoring hope and improving the
quality of Life of persons, families and communities affected by HIV infection
and disease, requires the services of dedicated, competent, innovative and
results oriented persons for employment on a contract basis for the above
position;
Main purpose of the job.
To provide psychosocial care and support to PLHIV and their households
Key outputs
· Comprehensive HIV psychosocial services provided
· ARVs and other prophylactic drugs delivered at facility and community
· TASO clients home visited
· Comprehensive OVC services delivered
· Clients adhering to ART
· Clients retained in care
· Clients linked to other services
Key duties and responsibilities
· Provide quality and comprehensive psychosocial services to clients, family
members and communities
· Conduct ARV refills to clients at facility and community as per schedule
· Support clients adherence on ART and foster family support.
· Foster linkages for OVCs, selections and make necessary school visits and
support
· Conduct health talks at facility and CDDPs
· Conduct targeted home visits to foster family support
· Monitor basic parameters of clients on ART
· Monitor clients adherence to ART
· Follow up clients to ensure retention in care and on ART
· Refer and ensure linkage of clients to other services
· Establish and maintain peer support groups for clients
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS: Counsellor
Academic Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Education, SWSA, and Development
studies, Community and Adult Education, Community Psychology, Guidance and
Counselling, BSc Nursing and Clinical Officer’s diploma. HIV Counselling
Certificate is a MUST have.
Additional Training
· Training of Trainers and Child Counselling Certificate
To attract, retain, develop, manage and provide administrative support to
the Human Resources for outstanding performance in line with TASO’s strategic

Minimum Experience and Exposure:
1 year in HIV Counselling or Clinical services
Key Skills Necessary
· Motor cycle riding is a must and ability to communicate medical facts to
non-medical people. A copy of valid driving permit at least with class “A”
should be attached.
Other Qualities/Attributes
· Integrity, Empathy, Patience, Confidentiality, Ability to work under
mental and physical stress
