communicable diseases in Africa and Southeast Asia.
Malaria Consortium works with communities, government and non-government
agencies, academic institutions, and local and international organisations, to
ensure good evidence supports delivery of effective services, providing
technical support for monitoring and evaluation of programmes and activities
for evidence-based decision-making and strategic planning. The organisation
works to improve not only the health of the individual, but also the capacity
of national health systems, which helps relieve poverty and support improved
economic prosperity.
Malaria Consortium is bidding on a large
multi-million-pound, multi-country project focused on strengthening the
surveillance, control and treatment of Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL), a neglected
tropical disease. Malaria Consortium will lead a consortium of national and
international partners to implement this project in Ethiopia,
South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda.
Malaria Consortium is looking to select, and if successful
at bid stage, recruit, a BCC Specialist. The post will be based in Malaria
Consortium’s Africa Regional Office in Kampala,
Uganda, with
significant international travel to country offices and project sites.
The post holder will provide technical leadership in
behaviour change communication for this multi-country, high profile, high value
project, working closely with host country governments and other partners.
The successful candidate will have:
• Advanced degree in development, communications, media,
broadcasting, public health, social sciences or other relevant fields
• Understanding and familiarity with development
communications issues and solutions, particularly in public health
• Experience of public health BCC related to case finding
and demand creation
• Excellent writing, reporting and and presentation skills
• Highly organized
and able to work successfully in a team that is geographically dispersed.
• Familiarity with public health principles
• Understanding of Aid effectiveness and utilisation of the
principles in project design and implementation
• Project management and planning skills
• Able to delegate
efficiently and technically support teams with no direct line management
responsibility over them
• Strong skills in negotiating with and engaging Ministry of
Health Officials
