The Government of Uganda is implementing the National
Development Plan 2010/11-2014/15, which has a vision of transforming Uganda to
a middle-income economy through the promotion of growth,
employment and socio-economic transformation for prosperity.
In that plan,
Government recognizes that in the short to medium term, the tourism sector will
be one of the key drivers in the country’s efforts to reduce poverty, and has
great potential for foreign exchange generation, job creation, and provision of
livelihoods to a significant proportion of the population.
In this regard, the
Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage (MTWA) with support from UNDP, is
implementing a project Improving Policies and Regulations to Support
Development of Markets in Tourism. In order to support the implementation of
the project interventions, UNDP is seeking to recruit a Project Officer. Under
the direct supervision of the Team Leader, Growth and Poverty Reduction Programme
and overall guidance of the Country Director; the Project Officer will provide
technical backstopping support and assist in monitoring and reporting of
project activities.
