A. Functions
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the WHO Representative,
and under the technical programmatic guidance of Regional Programme Manager,
the National Professional Officer/Routine Immunization will perform the following
duties:
1. Participate in EPI programme planning, implementation, monitoring
and evaluation within the WHO Country Office; support UNEPI to develop national
annual and multi-year plans of action and monitor progress of approved
activities and indicators.
2. Provide technical Assistance to the Ministry of Health to
strengthen routine immunization and evaluation and reach every district, with
special reference to planning and management of resources, establishment of
outreach services, supportive supervision, community links with service
delivery and waste management plans.
3. To provide technical support to UNEPI in accelerated immunisable
diseases control, elimination and eradication; specifically the Polio
Eradication Initiative, Measles Control and Elimination, and Maternal and
Neonatal Elimination
4. Provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Health
and districts in micro planning for immunization, with special emphasis on
improving coverage, quality of service, and vaccine management, setting
priorities based on evidence, and implementing immunization safety and waste management
plans.
5. Monitor progress and constraints in the implementation of
national EPI plans, through monitoring of coverage, dropout rates, vaccine
wastage and other indicators, especially
in areas supported by grants for routine immunization provided through
WHO.
6. Support UNEPI to plan, implement and monitor capacity building
activities for EPI at national, district and health
sub-district levels.
7. Support UNEPI in assessment of need for, preparation for,
and introduction of new vaccines.
8. Participate in the identification, planning and
evaluation of operational research activities, and document lessons learnt and
best practice, particularly from programmes with grant support provided through
WHO.
9. Co-ordinate, prepare and submit technical and financial progress
reports to donors as required, in particular for GAVI.
10. To perform any other duties assigned by the WHO Representative.

C. Education
(Qualifications):
Bachelor of Medicine Degree from a recognized University and
Masters Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology or related health science.
D. Experience:
At least 7 years working experience in the field of Public
Health.
Prior experience in the World Health Organization and other United
Nations Agencies and in the area of Immunization will be an added advantage.
E. Languages:
Proficiency in written and spoken English; working knowledge
of French would be added advantage.
