Are you ActionAid Uganda’s new Governance & Accountability Advisor?
ActionAid Uganda (AAU) seeks a highly qualified and experienced professional in GOVERNANCE and
ACCOUNTABILITY to support its partners in the development and use of governance accountability; and other capacity building activities aimed at holding governments and corporates to account, assist secure improvements in the quality, equity and gender responsiveness of public services.
AAU has national coverage through its Local Rights Programmes (LRPs) in ten districts and work closely local and national partner organizations throughout the country. The Governance & Accountability Advisor will work with selected few anti-corruption and accountability partners.
Key result areas:
• Strengthen connectedness of anti-corruption partners and coordination of their programming for stronger voice and accountability demands
• Strengthen institutional governance of Anti-corruption coalitions and institutions
• Ensure that Anti-corruption program staff and community based activists demand from government authorities lead to improved public service delivery
• Ensure that Anti-corruption coalitions and alliances and networks are strengthened at regional and national levels and are engaged in coordinated exposure of corruption in Uganda
• Support anti-corruption partners (ACCU and selected Regional Anti-Corruption Coalitions) program staff to conduct and interpret research results and re-package them for dissemination within various key advocacy platform and stakeholders
• Assist anti-corruption partners to develop an advocacy strategy for national coordination of the efforts of various stakeholders and community monitors
• Advise partners and LRPs on how to engage in accountability spaces at their levels and assist in identifying these spaces and build their capacity to engage
Required qualifications:
• Post graduate qualification, minimum of a MA, in governance or any other related social sciences degree (Public Administration, Human Rights, Development Studies, and Policy Studies etc.)
• Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience, of which 2 should be governance related from within the demand side of accountability
• Minimum of 3 years work experience in governance/anti-corruption programmes in developing countries, knowledge and experience of East/Southern Africa would be an advantage
• Practical experience with developing and implementing accountability methodologies such as Public Expenditure Tracking etc.
• Good knowledge of organizational development, especially facilitation experience in guiding network building and internal governance systems

The Governance & Accountability Advisor is placed through ActionAid Denmark’s People4Change program; a people-to-people programme providing development support to ActionAid Country Programs and there partner organisations. As People4Change is a cross-national program, aiming at building tolerance, respect and expertise across cultures and borders, this position is not available for permanent residents of Uganda.
