the National Council for Higher Education. The owners of the University are the
Registered Trustees of the Uganda Brothers of Christian Instruction, who,

JOB DETAILS:
The primary responsibility of the Accountant shall be to
prepare and examine financial records, and to ensure that they are accurate,
consistent with the University’s accounting policies and regulations as well as
compliant with the best national and international best practices as per the
established legal and regulatory frameworks.
He/she shall make sure that records are prepared in time and
that the University’s financial obligations are adhered to promptly.
Working in conjunction with the auditors, the Accountant
shall perform overviews of the financial operations of the University to ensure that it runs efficiently.
He/she shall also
help and advise the University to create plans of action for its improved
financial well--
being.
Duties and
Responsibilities
ü
Continuous checking of the bookkeeping and
accounts posting to the General Ledger.
ü
Preparing the university financial reports.
ü
Guiding the different units of the University in
the preparation of their respective annual budgets
ü
Providing Accounting Information for Auditing
purposes.
ü
Maintaining books of accounts, processing
payments, and keeping up-to-date records of accounts.
ü
Examines the bank reconciliation statements.
ü
Verifying that all accounting reports are
adequately supported by relevant documentation.
ü
Ascertaining that all accountability documents
are adequately secured and stored safely.
ü
Ensuring that proper internal controls are in
place.
ü
Making sure that the University Asset Register
is updated and maintained.
ü
Ensuring that statements and records comply with
established laws and regulations
ü
Making recommendations towards the realization
of best practices in the University’s financial management as well as
safeguarding its financial health
ü
Suggesting ways to reduce costs, enhance
revenues
ü
Participate in the annual stock-taking
ü
Carry out any other duties as may be assigned
from time to time.
Qualification,
Experience, and Skills
ü
Master’s Degree in the relevant field and a
Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business
ü
Administration/Management or an equivalent
degree from an institution of higher learning recognized by NCHE.
ü
At least level two of professional qualification
such as ACCAor CPA,
ü
At least three (3) years of working experience as
an Accountant in a reputable organization, preferably in an institution of
higher learning
ü
Demonstrate understanding of the legal and
regulatory framework regarding taxes and other financial obligations, particularly about educational institutions of higher learning
ü
Familiarity with best practices in accounting
and setting precedents for financial health and stability in not-for-profit
organizations, particularly in institutions of higher learning
ü
Proven experience in using automated accounting
systems and diverse accounting packages
ü
Excellent knowledge of Accounting Software
packages
ü
Outstanding organizational, leadership,
communication, and interpersonal skills
ü
Good organizational, negotiation, and engagement
skills
