The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), an international conservation NGO
with its headquarters at the Bronx Zoo, New York, USA, currently seeks to hire
an Albertine Rift REDD Programme Manager. This is a regional position based in
Kampala with regular travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo and other
Central African countries and reports to the Director of WCS’ Albertine Rift
Programme
The Albertine Rift REDD Program Manager will be responsible for the
development of REDD projects along the Albertine Rift in Uganda, DRC, Rwanda,
Burundi, Tanzania including project design, data collection, technical analysis
and drafting project documents, (e.g. PDDs for the voluntary carbon market and
ER-PINs for partner countries of the FCPF).
This position requires frequent travels and coordination with WCS teams in
Kinshasa and New York and our key partner’s operation areas in the region.
Qualifications required for the post:
Required: PhD degree in
forestry or conservation biology
Required: Minimum of ten years of professional experience in forestry or related fi
eld with proven track record in REDD project development, extensive knowledge
of voluntary and compliance carbon markets, particularly the FCPF and UN-REDD.
Required: Remote sensing, modeling, fieldwork, statistical analysis skills, project
management, and budgeting and planning
Required: Demonstrated experience in developing biomass inventories, ground truthing
land use classifications and designing and implementing socio-economic surveys
Required: Knowledge of current climate change policy globally and in Uganda,
and emerging protocols and strategies (e.g. NAPAs, NAMAs, UNFCC, REDD+ emerging
safeguards)
Required: Fundraising experience, proposal writing and budget development from
government/agency and private sources
Required: Fluent English and
French Preferred: Significant work experience in Uganda, knowledge of Uganda
environmental and conservation political issues
Preferred: Experience working in multicultural environment of an international NGO

Job Summary:
The successful candidate will assist in managing a sound Internal Control
System within Britania that will require proper planning and reporting the
results of all internal audits and related assignments with recommendations
wherever applicable.
Qualifications and experience:
• Minimum of a Bachelor’ Degree in one of these fields: Accounting,
Finance, Audit, Economics, Commerce or Business Administration
. • Audit experience of between 1 – 3 years is required
• At least 2 years’ experience in accounting
Skills and competencies:
The candidate should have skills and ability to identify issues, formulate
opinions, make conclusions and recommend solutions. Should have good
interpersonal skills, excellent communication and report writing skills and
should have the ability to work independently. He/ she should have working
knowledge of IT systems and MS office especially Excel.
Responsibilities:
• Conducting Internal Control evaluation and risk assessment to identify
loopholes and areas requiring management intervention to prevent frauds,
embezzlements, misappropriations, misuse and wastage and ensuring that
objectives of the organization are achieved economically, efficiently and
effectively;
• Assist in the preparation of special reports when asked for by the
management on various aspects of financial management, including asset
management and security, financial reporting, decision support systems,
management Information systems;
• Facilitating in undertaking periodic reviews and annual audit of
financial transactions as per the organization requirements.
• Assisting the finance department in preparation SOPs in critical areas
like meeting financial obligations under procurements and the process itself.
Specifying internal checks including preaudit checks, adherence to policies
procedures and compliance with rules, laws and regulations to ensure that
payments to suppliers and other entities are made by them in accordance with
the stipulated guidelines
• Ensuring that systems exist for generation of accurate and reliable
financial and other Information;
• Prepares, analyzes and reconciles and conducts verification regarding
accounts being examined.
• Conducts surprise cash counts on company funds as required
• Gathers, verifies and analyses monthly sales reports, contracts and other
related documents
• Conducts system review to assess its effectiveness and efficiency and
recommends necessary actions to improve deficient conditions
• Witnesses inventory taking of company’s fixed assets and supplies on
quarterly and annual basis.
• Submits audit observations and recommendations to the supervisor for
review and evaluation.
• Conducting any other related tasks that may be assigned by the management
