Support
Background Information:
ACDI/VOCA is implementing the USAID-funded PL 480 Title II Development Food
Assistance Program entitled “Resiliency through Wealth, Agriculture, and
Nutrition in Karamoja (RWANU)”. The RWANU Program aims to reduce food
insecurity among vulnerable rural populations in selected sub-counties of
Amudat, Moroto, Napak and Nakapiripirit.
The Program’s strategic objectives are
(1) improved availability and access to food and
(2) reduced malnutrition in pregnant
and lactating mothers and children under five. RWANU
promotes diversified livelihoods strategies including linkages to market
opportunities to ensure long-term food security and resilience to food
insecurity shocks.
OfficerLocation: Moroto with frequent travels within the project area in South Karamoja.
Main Purpose of the Job:
Provide leadership and general technical direction towards the development
of business services in the RWANU program.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership and technical direction to the;
Ø Honey Support Officer
Ø Savings and Credit/Association Development Officer
Ø Farming as a Business Officer
Ø Marketing Support officer
Ø Savings and Credit Officer Support officers under the Business services
unit to;
Ø develop appropriate training materials
Ø provide appropriate TOTs to Field Extension Workers (FEWs) in coordination
with the Field Extension Coordinator
Ø make periodic follow up of the FEWs on delivery of appropriate trainings
to program beneficiaries and that uptake is strong
• Support the Savings and Credit/Association Development officer to promote
the development of viable farmer associations
• Support the Marketing officer in promoting marketing initiatives at
individual farmer, farmer group and association levels covering crops, honey
and livestock
• Monitor the establishment and development of relevant private sector
initiatives targeted at
supporting RWANU beneficiaries in the honey sector and others
• Serve as RWANU’s liaison officer with other organisations that have agri-
business related interventions for purposes of sharing best practices and
approaches
• Any other task as required by the immediate
supervisor
Person Requirements:
Qualifications:
• This job is based in Moroto.
• A business related degree with a bias in agribusiness.
Experience:
At least 5 years professional experience supporting agribusiness
initiatives preferably in hard to reach areas like Karamoja.
Language:
• NgaKarimojong language skills highly desirable
• Fluent written and spoken English language skills are a must
Skills:
• Computer literacy with a good command of word
processing and spreadsheets
• Ability to supervise staff
• Good communication and reporting skills
• Demonstrable ability to delegate and work with a team
• Ability to work with minimum supervision
• Good interpersonal skills
