Job purpose:
Provides leadership and central administrative management of the operation
of the Academic Division through planning and evaluation of faculty, curriculum
development, timetabling, students’ assessment, transcript production, policy
implementation and academic ceremonies. The Director works with the faculty
deans and department heads and acts as a link between the DVC for Academic
Affairs, the faculty and the student body.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
The Director, Teaching & Learning shall;
a) Academic administration, policy
formulation & Leadership
·
Assists the Deputy Vice
Chancellor in continuous formation and review of the department’s strategic
plan and implementation.
·
Participates in the development
of policies and regulations which enhance the effectiveness of the teaching and
learning.
·
Plans with the faculty deans for
resources required for the future to support learning.
·
Provides administrative support
to the faculty deans and heads of departments.
·
Supports the faculty deans in
budget preparation each financial year
·
Receives feedback from both
students and academic staff about our services from which strategies are
developed to improve the division’s service delivery.
·
Attends as a member, meetings of
the Physical Infrastructure & Preservation committee, Timetable &
Curriculum committee and Academic Management committee.
·
Supervises staff
b) Curriculum, teaching &
timetabling
·
Oversees the development and
management of the Curriculum at the faculties.
·
Ensures that all training aides
needed in the lecture halls are adequately provided for effective teaching.
·
Works with the quality assurance
office to enforce quality assurance activities in teaching to enhance learning.
·
Draws out a schedule of the
University’s academic activities each year; and the teaching timetables each
semester.
·
Ensures that part-time academic
staff appointments are prepared and payments effected.
c) Planning and evaluation of faculty
Oversees in the recruitment,
induction and orientation of faculty; particularly the part-time academic
staff.
Plans for training of academic
staff.
Coordinates procedures for
continuous review of faculty members by enforcing the Academic Staff Evaluation
policy.
d) Students’ Assessment

Supervises the preparation of
students’ examinations and oversees the administration of these examinations at
the university’s different campuses.
·
Oversees the processing of all
students’ results between the faculties/study centres and the central academic
office.
·
Ensures that the University’s
instruction and assessment guidelines align with national standards
particularly the National Council for Higher Education.
e) Transcript & Certification
production
Manages the database management
system used for students’ results.
Supervises the processing of
degree certificates and transcripts for the graduating students.
f) Academic Ceremonies
Manages the award ceremony for
the best students and academic staff.
Oversees all preparatory
activities that culminate into the University’s graduation ceremonies.
Preferred Skills:
Qualifications and Experience
This is a senior position in any institution of higher learning and must be
held by a person who has the following;

PhD from a recognized Institute
of Higher Education is highly desirable but an identified and approved plan for
doctoral work within two years is acceptable
·
Masters in Human Resource Management,
Education, or any Management related degree from a recognized Institute of
Higher Education
·
A
good Bachelor’s degree in a related field from a recognised Institute of
Higher Education
·
Taught at University level for
not less than five (5) years at a senior level
·
Must have strong collaborative,
interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
·
Must have analytical, multi
tasking, organizational and time management skills
·
Must have Knowledge and
experience in administration & management in higher education.
·
Must have excellent
organizational skills, detail oriented, and the ability to work independently.
·
Ability to work under pressure
and manage multiple concurrent and conflicting priorities and deadlines.
·
Experience in the use of
analytics as a part of a comprehensive admissions strategic plan and
accountability.
·
An understanding of higher
education academic context is a plus
·
Ability to deal with quantitative
data and present it effectively to various levels of university
management.
·
Familiarity with the management
and use of computer-based record systems.
·
Ability to think and act quickly,
prioritize tasks, and handle conflict in a constructive way.
·
Should be a committed Mature
Christian who subscribes to the instrument of identity of Uganda Christian
University.
