Background:
The mission of the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is to strengthen
health systems in Africa with strong emphasis in Infectious Diseases, through
Research and Capacity Development.
IDI has five operational areas through which
it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training,
Research; Laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere
University-John Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach progrmmes.
General Summary:
The Senior Grants Manager will provide support to the IDI Grants Management
Unit specifically to the SDS Program which is giving support and technical
assistance to 35 districts in areas of grants management, M&E, and
Management Information Systems (MIS). They will spend some time at IDI as well
as in the districts, but will also be available to provide support by phone and
email.
Required qualifications:
The Senior Grants Manager should have:
• Bachelor's degree in a
relevant field such as Finance, Business or Commerce;
• Master's degree in
similar relevant field.
Required Experience and Skills:
The Senior Grants Manager should have:
• Substantial experience
(minimum three years) in grants management, relating to funding agencies, and
reporting
• Experience working with
USAID and its implementing partners
• Experience working with
Local governments and giving them technical
support
• Sound experience of
budget preparation processes
• Experience in project
planning and management
• Good communication
skills - both oral and written
• High proficiency in the
use of office computers and spreadsheets.
• Strong interpersonal
skills
• Excellent organizational
skills including ability to track / monitor multiple projects simultaneously
• At least three years'
experience in relevant activities including relating to funding agencies,
reporting, and / or grants management
Summary of Responsibilities:
The Senior Grants Manager will: Respond verbally or in writing to a range
of queries and of assignments including, but not limited to, the following.
Areas to be supported will include, but will not be necessarily limited to the
following:
Planning, implementation and coordination of training programs:
• Plans, coordinates and
implements training programs at IDI (and in the districts) as part of a
multi-disciplinary team
• Participates in
participant : selection, training, clinical mentoring, assessments and
evaluations
• Contributes to : curriculum
development, monitoring and evaluation of programs, mobile trainings, team and
cluster training
• Budget development for
grant proposals for the districts
• Providing the districts
with technical assistance in areas of grants and financial management
• Preparation of timely
financial reports, as required - ensuring excellence in reporting content and
format; and check for regulatory compliance (especially in relation to research
grants).
• Development and
implementation of grants management training courses under the SD program
Compensation:
Compensation for the position will be commensurate with training and
experience.
