Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, Procurement and Logistics, and Consultancy vacancy at Uganda Management Institute (UMI)


Uganda Management Institute (UMI) is a Management Development Institution with a mission “to excel in developing sustainable management capacity”. The Institute’s activities are currently carried out at the main campus in Kampala and its Outreach Centers in Mbarara, Gulu and Mbale. In order to carry out its functions efficiently and effectively, the Institute seeks to recruit suitably qualified persons in the following full time posts:

1. CONSULTANT IN MONITORING AND EVALUATION
 Report to: Head of respective Departments
 Salary Scale: UM4a
Background Information:
Uganda Management Institute (UMI) is a Management Development Institution with a mission “to excel in developing sustainable management capacity”. It provides management training, consultancy and research services in response to the demands of the public, private, and NGO sectors. In addition to short performance improvement management skills development courses, the Institute offers high quality career development management courses at Certificate, Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma and Higher Degree Levels. The Institute’s activities are currently carried out at the main campus in Kampala and its Outreach Centers in Mbarara, Gulu and Mbale. In order to carry out its functions efficiently and effectively, the Institute seeks to recruit suitably qualified persons in the following full time posts:
a) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(i) Develop and deliver training programmes,
(ii) Market UMI training programmes.
(iii) Develop training materials and case studies,
(iv) Facilitate on education and training programmes of the Institute.
(v) Prepare reports on training conducted for both internal and external stakeholders
(vi) Evaluate the impact of training given to participants.
(vii) Conduct research and disseminate findings.
(viii) Carry out consultancy services for UMI Clients.
(ix) Supervise students carrying out research projects as part of their training.
b) PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:
(i) Applicants must have a minimum of a Master’s Degree a field related to the post applied for from a recognized University or Institution.
(ii) An honors first degree in a related field is a requirement for all applicants
(iii) MCIPS is a requirement for applicants for the post of Consultant in Procurement and Logistics
(iv) A proven teaching experience in a University or other Institutions of higher learning will be required for all applicants plus substantial managerial experience gained with reputable organizations.
(v) Should be aged 30 years and above
(vi) Computer Literate.
(vii) Ability to deliver high quality training in a wide range of fields to adult learners.
(viii) Ability to conduct research and undertake consultancy assignments
4. HUMAN RESOURCE OFFICER (1 POSITION)
 Reports to: Human Resource Manager
 Salary Scale: UM4b
(a) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(i) Implementing the Human Resource plan for the Institute;
(ii) Participating in the selection, induction and placement of staff;
(iii) Updating the staff data bank;
(iv) Supporting staff welfare programmes;
(v) Facilitating the performance management process;
(vi) Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
(b) PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:
(i) An honors Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Resource Management related field from a recognized University/ Institution, plus
(ii) A Postgraduate qualification in Human Resource Management will be required
(iii) Should have relevant experience in a similar or related position gained in a reputable organization
(iv) Well-developed interpersonal, communication, team building and analytical skills
(v) Should be proficient in MS office applications and internet/ email technologies
5. LIBRARY ASSISTANT-KAMPALA CENTRE (3 POSITIONS) READVERTISED
 Reports to: Head of Library and Documentation Department
 Salary Scale: UM6
(a) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(vii) Assisting library users in locating library materials
(viii) Processing the loaned and returned books
(ix) Sorting and shelving books and other reading materials
(x) Tidying shelves and library furniture
(xi) Maintaining library records and performing security checks
(xii) Opening and closing the library at stipulated times
(xiii) Ensuring the security of library materials
(b) PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:
(i) Diploma in Library and Information Science from a recognized Institution/University
(ii) Must be computer literate
(iii) Should be self-driven, results-oriented, versatile, customer -focused, innovative and a team player.
(iv) Should have two years relevant experience in a similar position preferably from a higher Institution of learning.
(v) Should be computer literate.
6. HELP DESK TECHNICIAN (1 POSITION)
 Report to: Systems Administrator
 Salary Scale: UM6
(a) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(i) Logging support calls received by telephone, email or in person, prioritizing and scheduling problems.
(ii) Applying diagnostic utilities to aid in troubleshooting and providing technical assistance to users.
(iii) Performing hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software.
(iv) Developing help sheets and frequently asked questions lists for end users.
(v) Performing preventive maintenance, including checking and cleaning of workstations, printers and other peripherals
(vi) Providing individual instruction and training to staff and / or participants on computer hardware and software.
(vii) Supervising ICT Trainees performing similar work.
(viii) Liaising with the Computer Operator to ensure computer labs are operating effectively.
(ix) Providing periodic activity progress reports to Systems Administrator for action.
(x) Maintaining the resource Centre, laboratories and ensuring they are in good state and all necessary applications to be used for study
(b) PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:
(i) A graduate in Computer Science or Information Technology from a recognized University/ Institution.
(ii) A proven training in Microsoft help desk support or CompTIA A+ (PC Technician);
(iii) Should have one year’s relevant experience gained in a reputable organization;
(iv) Should be self-driven, results-oriented, versatile, customer -focused, innovative and a team player.
7. REWARDS AND OTHER TERMS OF SERVICE
Successful candidates will, on being confirmed in appointment, be offered five-year renewable contracts, a competitive basic salary complemented by housing allowance, medical allowance, transport allowance and an attractive gratuity scheme. Staff are also provided with support for continuous personal development.
