TERMS AND CONDITIONS
OF SERVICE
a) Appointment on full time basis for a five (5) year term;
b) Other terms and conditions of service are similar to
those of a Judge of the High Court of Uganda.
Minimum/Required
Qualifications:
A Ugandan who is or has been a judge of a Court having
unlimited jurisdiction in civil and criminal matters or a Court having
jurisdiction in appeals from any such Court or has practiced as an advocate for
a period not less than ten years before a Court having unlimited jurisdiction
in civil and criminal matters. Any period during which a person has practiced
as a public officer holding an office for which qualification as an Advocate is
required shall be taken into account in calculating the period of practice.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
1. Presides over the proceedings of the Industrial Court.
2. Arbitrates on labour disputes referred to the Court under
The Labour Disputes (Arbitration and Settlement) Act No. 8 of 2006.
3. Adjudicates upon questions of law and fact arising from
references made to the Industrial Court under any other law.
4. Receives and handles appeals from decisions of Labour
Officers.

Working Experience:
Should have worked in the Courts of Judicature for at least
3 years as a Registrar or 6 years as a Deputy Registrar.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
1. Serves as Professional/technical Head of Registrars and
Magistrates in the Courts of Judicature.
2. Assists in the formulation and implementation of
policies, systems and procedures for the
effective and efficient administration of justice.
3. Assists in providing administrative, logistical and
personnel management services to support the smooth running of the Judiciary.
4. Regularly reviews the structural systems and procedures
of the Courts for purposes of achieving effectiveness and control.
5. Co-ordinates and monitors activities of the Courts.
6. Conducts regular physical inspections of Courts to assess
performance.
7. Any other duties assigned by the Chief Justice, Deputy
Chief Justice or Principal Judge.

5. Supervises staff directly under him/her.
6. Any other duties assigned by immediate supervisor.

1. Assists the Registrar in the administrative duties of the
assigned Registry.
2. Performs judicial functions within his/her jurisdiction
in a given Court.
3. Makes monthly reports on the position of the cases in the
Courts of Judicature.
4. Assists the Registrar in the management of Court
premises, equipment/tools and other logistics.
5. Plans and manages Court sessions in consultation with the
Registrar.
6. Supervises staff directly under him/her.
7. Any other duties assigned by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications:
Candidates should be Ugandans who possess an Honours LLB
degree from a recognized University/ Institution and a Postgraduate Diploma in
Legal Practice from Law Development Centre.
Any relevant post graduate qualification is an added
advantage.
