Positions report to:
Peace Corps Uganda,
Director/Programming and Training Peace Corps (PC) is an
agency of the United States Government, which brings American volunteer
development workers to assist Uganda in capacity building and technical assistance
activities in Health, Education and Community Economic Development.
There are
about 160 Volunteers assigned to nongovernment organizations, government entities,
clinics, colleges and schools. Peace Corps also aims to build cultural understanding
between Americans and Ugandans. All positions require excellent command of
English, both spoken and written; native ability in spoken and written in at
least one widely spoken Ugandan language. All positions require extensive travel.

Feed The Future Coordinator (FtFC) – (3 positions)
Background:
Feed the Future is the United States Government’s global
hunger and food security initiative. It supports country-driven approaches to
address the root causes of hunger and poverty and forge long-term solutions to
chronic food insecurity and under-nutrition. These three food security positions
are based in Kampala, Mbarara and Gulu as noted below.
Purpose of Position. These positions are aimed at providing
technical leadership and expertise to Peace Corps’ Feed the Future Interagency Partnership.
Key Responsibilities:
• Work within Peace Corps’ FtF team to define and implement
Peace Corps’ feed the future and food security activities in assigned region.
• Coordinate with USAID/Uganda, regarding the post’s food
security activities.
• Compile program reports for PC/Uganda, USAID/Uganda and
PC/HQ to demonstrate the use and impact of PC/Uganda’s contributions to Feed
the Future.
• Develop over 40 Volunteer work sites with partners
throughout Uganda.
• Provide technical resource information and technical
training and coaching to Volunteers and their counterparts, utilizing, where
effective, the Volunteer Agriculture Think Tank.
• Assist Volunteers in monitoring their work and reporting
outcomes.
• Co-develop, manage and engage a Project Advisory Committee
to contribute to program effectiveness..
Qualifications and
Experience:
• Education: Master in Business, Agrobusiness, Marketing,
Agriculture or related field or appropriate education and professional
experience mix.
• Experience: 5 years required, 10 years is desirable, in
the field of marketing and agribusiness, finance and business, agro business
development.
• Peace Corps Uganda is looking for a dynamic and experience
professional in agriculture/business field to fill the Feed the Future Coordinator
positions.
The applicants should have the passion and creative drive to
join this project technically supporting over 40 Volunteers in Uganda to
promote better harvest handling techniques and field-to-market solutions, to
enable Ugandan farmers and farming associations to develop strong business
skills and access to financial markets.
• Looking for skills in networking, negotiation, partnership
development, and the ability of strategic thinking that can support, guide and
nurture Volunteers’ and host organizations towards shared goals. Ability to
work independently with little supervision; good organization and time
management skills; willingness to take the initiative; teamwork skills, strong service
attitude; personal integrity; strong cross-cultural skills; strong
interpersonal skills and willingness to live in the area of work (Kampala,
Gulu, Mbarara).
Education Specialist
- Based in Kampala
Background:
Education Volunteers are assigned to government and
nongovernment colleges and schools who partner to enable Volunteers to provide capacity
building in Education. Purpose of Position. This position is aimed at providing
assistance and support to an education programming and training team to support
primary school pre-service and in-service teacher training and other related education
efforts as part of a national-level technical effort by Peace Corps.
Key Responsibilities:
• Coordinates with Education team regarding development and
management of Peace Corps’s education activities.
• Compile program reports for PC/Uganda, USAID/Uganda and
PC/HQ to demonstrate the use and impact of PC/Uganda’s contributions to
education in Uganda.
• Assist to develop over 40 Volunteer work sites with
colleges and schools throughout Uganda and provide technical resource
information and technical training and coaching to Volunteers and their
counterparts, including monitoring their work.
• Supports Volunteers to be prepared through training
activities before and during service.
• Co-develops an Education Project Advisory Committee.
Qualifications and
Experience:
• Education:
Bachelor of Science in Education;
• Experience of at least three years teaching experience at
the primary school level and three years as a Registered Tutor of the Ugandan
MOES.
• Preferred
experience: One year with relevant non-profit organizations or private
businesses.

Volunteer Support Assistant - Based in Kampala
This position is aimed at providing assistance and support
to American Peace Corps Volunteers for them to be effective, safe and secure.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintains Peace Corps systems and further develops new
systems to respond, track all Volunteer needs for safe and secure living,
working and traveling,
• Supports the program teams in new site and job development
for Volunteers. This includes site identification, housing follow-up and
verification, and assessment of safety and security concerns.
• Helps train trainees and Volunteers on safety and security
policies and practices and supports Volunteers who have experienced a criminal
action.
• Compiles data and writes reports for local and
headquarters needs.
• Monitors and supports the three Volunteer resource centers
outside Kampala, updates internet-based resources.
• Assists in collection of PCV stories.
Qualifications and
Experience:
• Education: Bachelor of Arts or Science in any field.
• Experience of at least three years working in a
cross-cultural setting meeting the needs of international employees and/ or customers
through face-to-face and telephone, email interactions.
• Preferred experience: One year with relevant non-profit
organizations or private businesses.
• Peace Corps Uganda is looking for a dynamic communicator
and problem solver to fill this position. The applicant should have the passion
and creative drive to join the Peace Corps staff to support 160 Volunteers in
Uganda to be effective in their assignments.
