Organisation: The Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC)
Location: Uganda.
Background Information:
The Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) is Uganda’s leading economics research institution. Its mandate is to provide research and other forms of analytical support to Uganda’s development process. EPRC uses resources from the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), Government of Uganda and ThinkTank Initiative (TTI) under the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). The Centre is searching for qualified persons with sound professional integrity to fi ll the positions indicated
Duties:
a) Deputizes the Executive Director
b) Coordinates research agenda that stimulates ideas for addressing development challenges of Uganda
c) Manages and coordinates the timely implementation of the Centre’s research agenda
d) Provides guidance to the Centre’s knowledge management
e) Undertake research in areas of his/her expertise
f) Engage in commissioned work for and on behalf of the Centre
g) Implement research and capacity building/staff development activities
h) Identify opportunities for the most efficient and effective collaborative use of research by the Centre’s stakeholders
i) Mentor, supervise and manage researchers’ performance
j) Coordinate a systematic environmental scanning of available data analysis, presentation tools, best practises
k) Ensure effective participation of the Centre in development policy discourse
l) Market the Centre and solicit funds from various development partners through proposal writing and grant applications to support the Centre’s activities
Requirements:
a) Excellent academic background with a Ph.D. in Economics or any related area in economics (by coursework and research) from a reputable University
b) Strong training background in theory and methods of economic analysis
c) Excellent writing and presentation skills
d) A minimum of five (5) years of postdoctoral research work experience
e) Considerable experience in public policy analysis and research as well as knowledge management
f) Strong track record peer-reviewed publication
g) Experience of successful management and leadership of a research team working on large research projects
h) Experience of designing and implementing policy oriented research
i) Significant record of innovative and influential work, demonstrated by lead authorship of peer reviewed publications
j) Well developed leadership skills including the ability to lead in a team work environment
k) Willingness and ability to work under tight deadlines in a competitive environment
l) High-level interpersonal skills and good communication skills
m) Professional experience of working in a reputable research institutions
n) Unquestionable integrity
o) A qualification in management will be an added advantage
The Principal Research Fellow position is for a three year contract, with a possibility for renewal, subject to satisfactory performance. Attractive and internationally competitive remuneration package including healthcare coverage is offered.

Main Duties:
a) Undertake empirical sectoral policy research and analysis
b) Engage in commissioned work for and on behalf of the Centre
c) Based on research fi ndings and sound analysis, contribute to national policy discourse
d) Guide research and capacity building activities of Research Fellows and Assistant Research Fellows
e) Mentor and coach Research Fellows and Assistant Research Fellows
Requirements:
a) Excellent academic background with a Ph.D. in Economics or any related area in economics (by coursework and research) from a reputable University
b) Must be abreast with sector policies in education, health, agriculture, water and sanitation
c) Must be conversant with development challenges in the above mentioned sectors
d) Must have econometric impact evaluation techniques
e) Must have publications in at least two of the above mentioned sectors in (c)
f) Must be conversant with the linkage between sectoral issues and macroeconomic policies
g) Excellent writing and presentation skills
h) A minimum of three (3) years of postdoctoral research work experience
i) Professional experience of working in a reputable research institutions

4. POSITION: ACCOUNTANT (1 post)
Organisation: The Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC)
Role: To prepare and to provide fi nancial information to management as per the international Accounting Standards and EPRC’s accounting policies and procedures.

Reports to: Finance Manager
Age limit: 30-45 years
Key Duties/responsibilities:
i) Preparation of payment and cheques for approved outstanding obligations
ii) Prepare accounting evidence to support each and every transaction, capture and verify transaction data
iii) Verify that expenses and receipts are allocated to their right accounts and cost centre as per EPRC chart of accounting in the fi nancial manual;
iv) Reconcile the Centre’s bank accounts and other fi nancial records of the Centre in accordance with the requirements of various funding agencies and International Accounting Standards;
v) Preparing schedules of sundry debtors, as well as creditors, and reconciling them with respective control accounts;
vi) Ensure activity advances to staff are accounted for in time including reviewing fi eld activity reports;
vii) Ensure statutory expenses are recorded appropriately and data posting into Palladium Enterprise system for review by the Finance Manager;
viii) Keep updated assets register for the EPRC assets and make a physical checkup to see whether all assets in the register are in place;
ix) Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual accounting reports and submit them to management in line with the International Accounting Standards and the Centre’s report writing policy.
x) Assist in the preparation timely and accurate fi nancial reports in line with narrative reports that meet the different requirements;
xi) Assist in the preparation of quarterly consolidated fi nancial reports and ad hoc fi nancial reports as required by Managemen
xii) Submit monthly reports to the Finance Manager of assigned, delegated, and designated duties; and
xiii) Carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Person specifications and Educational qualifications:
i) A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Business administration (in Accounting and Finance) or a relevant field.
ii) Minimum of partial qualification of ACCA or CPA is a requirement.
iii) Postgraduate qualifi cations in Business Administration, Finance accounting will be an added advantage.
iv) Signifi cant experience at least three (3) years in accounting for donor funded projects in a reputable organization
v) Hands on experience in use of accounting packages (Palladium Enterprise, PASTEL);
vi) Excellent interpersonal (team player/ability to work cross functionally) skills, written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively within all levels in the organization
vii) High Level of integrity and professionalism
viii) Highly motivated to drive self and others to the highest levels of individual and team performance
ix) Ability to work independently requiring minimum supervision
