About the Job:
FINZA is seeking a Project Manager for a large-scale Financial Inclusion project in Sub-Saharan Africa - focusing on alternative delivery channels, staff capacity building and social performance management in Malawi, Tanzania, and Zambia. S/he will be responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating projects according to predetermined timelines and budgets. S/he will report to FINCA Canada development manager. The position is based in Uganda.

Tasks and Responsibilities:


  •     Work with development manager and stakeholders to complete project charter outlining scope, goals, deliverables, required resources, budget, and timing;
  •     Complete work breakdown structure to estimate effort required for each task;
  •     Serve as focal point for internal project contributors, ensuring their input is received per project timelines and appropriate project document retention, recording and reporting;
  •     Manage project development from initiation to closure;
  •     Lead project meetings, conference calls, and other communications, both internal and external, including monthly update calls and high-level project management committee meetings;
  •     Develop tools and best practices for project management and execution;
  •     Document key lessons learned and findings;
  •     Coordinate budget documentation;
  •     Monitor project expenditures against proposed budget and schedule/deliverables;
  •     Track and report on time contributions of internal project contributors and consultants;
  •     Frequent travel, up to 50%, mainly, but not limited to Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, Canada, and the United States.

Qualifications:

  •     Master’s degree in International Affairs, International Development, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience;
  •     At least 7 years of relevant work experience;
  •     Experience managing donor-funded international development projects;
  •     Knowledge of international development. Familiarity with microfinance preferred;
  •     Project management expertise, including of MS Project or similar software;
  •     Ability to work effectively as part of a global team, communicating effectively with senior managers and team members;
  •     Excellent writing abilities and strong verbal communication skills;
  •     Fluency in English required;
  •     Expertise in Microsoft Office. Ability to generate work plans, schedules, and budgets using Excel. Ability to create presentations using PowerPoint;
  •     Comfortable using Visio or other process mapping software.
