Background
The African Network for Strategic Communication in Health and Development (AfriComNet) is an association of health and development communication practitioners, who reside, work or have a primary interest in Africa. AfriComNet supports the collection and sharing of health communication
resources and supports health communication capacity strengthening activities for its members. The Network’s mission is to strengthen capacity in, and commitment to strategic communication for health and development in Africa. AfriComNet Secretariat is located in Kampala, Uganda. AfriComNet is recruiting for two positions, Program Officer and Finance and Administration Officer and both positions will be based in Kampala. Please note that the Finance and Administration Officer is a part-time position for the initial 6 months, with a possibility of becoming fulltime thereafter.
1. Program Officer:
The Program Officer’s duties and responsibilities will be to:
• Support the day-to-day update and maintenance of the website and membership database, including routine analysis and review of usage using defined metrics
• Create and manage the channels for exchange of health communication resources
• Provide support in the establishment, nurturing and maintenance of the electronic health communication “Marketplace”
• Support and contribute to the development of the AfriComNet 5-year Strategic Plan
• Facilitate cross learning and knowledge transfer within the health communication partners through collection, editing, cataloguing and dissemination/sharing of program innovations, promising practices and lessons learned
• Under the supervision of the Coordinator, develop tools, templates and processes to support partners in the routine sharing of communication innovations and lessons learned
• Manage the dissemination of information about the network’s activities to members and external audiences
• Organize conferences, workshops, annual awards and meetings
• Support University partners in planning and organizing the pretest of short courses on strategic health and development communication.
• Assist with the preparation of quarterly reports, annual work plans and budgets
• Competitively recruit consultants and vendors following AfriComNet procedures and policies
• Represent AfriComNet and/or make presentations at meetings & conferences and identify opportunities for knowledge sharing and resource mobilization
• Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong writing, editing, and documentation skills; Ability to work independently; Strong listening and information
gathering skills, and ability to compile and consolidate technical information and resources; Familiarity with use of various social/new media applications
 
Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills; Proficient in
Microsoft applications; Willingness to travel
Desired qualifications: Bachelors’ degree in mass communication or in a related field. Postgraduate/further training in communication is an added advantage.
 At least 5 years working experience in the field of health and development communication. Experience in documentation and knowledge
management is strongly desired.
