The African Palliative Care Association (APCA) is a dynamic and fast
growing pan-African non-governmental organisation registered in Uganda
with an Africa-wide mandate to promote and support access to affordable
and culturally appropriate palliative care services for people
with life-threatening illnesses, such as HIV/AIDS, cancer and other
non-communicable diseases, and their families. APCA exists to ensure
that palliative care is underpinned by evidence, widely understood and
integrated into all health systems in order to reduce pain and suffering
across Africa. APCA invites applications from suitably qualified world
citizen candidates for the following positions based at the head office
in Kampala, Uganda.
These positions are open to both Ugandans and non-Ugandans.
Job summary
Under the general supervision of the Programme Manager, the programme
assistant will perform administrative support functions for APCA’s
programme team and individual programme officers.
These functions include administrative tasks, financial tasks, project
implementation tasks and will involve support to the M&E systems and
functioning of the programmes team in general.
Main areas of responsibility:
• Overall coordination and administration of three grants (these include
small grants management and a scholarship programme). The activities
will include leading the process for applications and
approvals, communications with applicants, contractual arrangements,
follow up and monitoring of projects, reviewing narrative and financial
reporting and adhering to donor requirements.
• Responding to general inquiries and orienting APCA’s visitors on APCA’s work through the coordination of site visits.
• Assisting in the preparation of internal progress reports
• Preparation and note taking during internal meetings
• Supporting APCA’s M&E system development
• Administrative tasks will include the preparation of forms and strong
liaising with the administrative department in terms of logistical
arrangements
• Preparation of accountabilities and follow up of payments will be done
in close collaboration with the Programme officers and the Finance
department
• Provision of support in communications towards partners
• Acting as a focal person in the absence of Programme officers.
• To support the communications team in providing written updates on
programmatic activities for the APCA website and for social media
updates.
Qualifications and experience:
• Bachelors degree or diploma in Business Administration or related field
• Experience in a similar position and in Project Planning and
Management
• Proactive, hands-on and able to work on different projects simultaneously
• Excellent organisational and administrative skills
• Good communications skills in order to build strong relations with various departments and partners
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
