The African Palliative Care Association (APCA) is a dynamic and fast
growing pan-African non-governmental organisation registered in Uganda
with an Africa-wide mandate to promote and support access to affordable
and culturally appropriate palliative care services for people
with life-threatening illnesses, such as HIV/AIDS, cancer and other
non-communicable diseases, and their families. APCA exists to ensure
that palliative care is underpinned by evidence, widely understood and
integrated into all health systems in order to reduce pain and suffering
across Africa. APCA invites applications from suitably qualified world
citizen candidates for the following positions based at the head office
in Kampala, Uganda.
These positions are open to both Ugandans and non-Ugandans.
Job summary
The post holder’s primary responsibility, under the supervision of the
Programme Manager, is to manage a portfolio of work aimed at achieving
APCA’s strategic plan by supporting specific partners to develop
sustainable palliative care programmes in their countries. This includes
providing/sourcing technical support in palliative care and
organisational development for these countries, and will include
day-to-day management of several project portfolios. The post holder
will be based at the APCA Secretariat in Kampala, Uganda.
Main areas of responsibility:
◘ Project co-ordination and administration
The post holder will work with partners to develop work plans and
budgets for several projects, and will be responsible for the
implementation of all activities in line with the work plan, the
available budgets and with donor requirements. This includes day-to-day
management and coordination of
programme activities and planning. The post holder will be responsible
for monitoring and evaluating activities as well as contributing to
APCA’s M&E systems.
◘ Programme development/technical role
The post holder will be expected to gain knowledge on the current
palliative care situation in the countries responsible for, and to
actively contribute to the development of new proposals and activities
in order to address gaps and needs identified. Technical input will need
to be
provided or sourced to partners for programme development, planning and implementation.
◘ Programme learning and communications
The post holder is expected to lead and participate in programme learning
meetings as well as to document lessons learned from projects and to
share best practices and publications from projects for communication
purposes. Relevant conferences will be attended and might include the
presentation of papers and/or workshops.
Job related experience and knowledge:
• Bachelors degree in social sciences or related field
• Experience in programme development, implementation and
coordination, preferably within an (I) NGO
• Financial management experience, preferably with different types of
donors
• Knowledge of palliative care is an added advantage.
