SOS Children’s Villages Uganda is an indigenous non
government organisation affiliated to SOS Children’s Villages international, a
worldwide child care organization that provides children at risk of losing
parental care with a permanent home and educational opportunities.
We run two major programmes i.e Family Based Care based at
SOS Children’s Villages and Family Strengthening Programmes supporting families
in local communities.
SOS has been working in Uganda since 1991, and runs
Children’s Villages and other projects at Kakiri, Entebbe (Abaita Ababiri),
Gulu and Fort Portal – Kabarole district. SOS also subscribes to a child
protection policy.
We invite applications for the following vacancies at the
respective locations.
I) Village Director at SOS Children’s Village Gulu
We seek to recruit a socially stable, mature person (male or
female) aged 33- 42 years to undertake the establishment, leadership and
management of the SOS Children’s Village Gulu. The Village Director reports to
the Programme Director and his / her key result areas include:
• Leads the Family Based Care program, providing strong
leadership to the affairs of the Children’s Village.
• Takes responsibility for children’s education and
psychosocial needs also promoting the welfare and job performance of SOS mothers
and all other staff in the children’s village.
• Leads the planning and implementation of activity
programmes for the Children’s Village.
• Develops and implements appropriate training programs for
mothers and youth leaders’ development.
• Creates a framework for a high quality of youth care
within youth facilities/youth care programmes
• Promotes and supports the development of strong and long
term family ties among SOS families and acts as role model for the children,
mothers and staff.
• Actively contributes to the location management team of
which he/she is a member.
Minimum Requirement:
• University graduate in one or combination of the following
disciplines: Management of Organisations, Human Resource Management and Social
Sciences, Qualifica tion in social work, child psychology and counseling shall
be of great advantage.
• Working experiences should include: at least 3 – 4 years
progressive work at key positions (in management) in a stretching / modern
working environment preferably working with children and youth programmes.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal abilities.
• The candidate should possess the emotional stability to
lead and guide the large community of children, SOS mothers and staff,
maintaining the required high standards.
• A stable social and emotional family situation.
• The position requires the Village Director to live within
the Children’s Village.
II) Female Youth Leader (Gulu & Kakiri) 2 Vacancies

We need dynamic individuals to support development of our
female & male youths and guide them to independence life. The youth leader
will guide and support the personal development of youth living in the youth
homes; create opportunities for contacts with their families and community.
Lead educational career development and search for
training/internship and employment opportunities for youths.
Provide creative support environment for youths to develop
life skills. She also supports mothers with the youth in their family houses.
Minimum Requirements: The ideal candidate should be aged
between 30 and 35, with a good qualification in Education, Social Sciences,
Development studies or Social Work.
Relevant experience of at least 3-4 years working with youth
and children is required. Career guidance skills and involvement in
co-curricular activities e.g. sports/games will be an added advantage (please
indicate your preferred location)
IV) Administrator (SOS Children’s Village Entebbe).
We seek a mature individual to assist our Programme Direc
tor in running the administrative office and providing support to all the
processes required to run an efficient office set up.
He/ she will take charge of managing and leading all
operation functions and provide strong support in the efficient and proper
coordination of all projects within the Children’s Village programme. This
position will be under the supervision of the Programme Director.
Minimum Requirements: The ideal candidate should be aged
between 28 – 35 years with a diploma/ university degree in Social Sciences,
public administration or an equivalent.
Good communications skills and relevant experience of at
least 2-3 years in office management and administration in a busy and practical
training environment/office setting are essential.
Practical training in modern office administration as well
as knowledge of basic accounting will be of an added advantage. Proven skills
in secretarial, communication and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Email &
Internet etc) is desirable.
V) Mother/Aunt Trainee (1Gulu and 1Entebbe)
An SOS Mother is the head of an SOS family comprising of 10
children of both sexes and various ages.
She is responsible for running the household independently,
including managing the family budget and providing the children with affection
and career, availing them a sense of security needed for their development.
Her working week is a full seven days, compensated by some
days off at the end of each month and an annual leave.
Minimum Requirement
Single mature women aged between 28 – 35 years, with a
minimum of O’level education. she should be dedicated to working with children
on a long term basis. The successful candidates will spend at least 6 months as
mother trainee.
She is responsible for running the household independently,
including managing the family budget and providing the children with affection
and care, availing them a sense of security needed for their development. Her
working week is a full seven days, compensated by some days off at the end of
each month and an annual leave.
VI) Enrolled Comprehensive Nurse or Registered Nurse-SOS
Medical Centre Entebbe & Gulu (3 vacancies)
The Nurses will support delivery of quality curative
preventive medical services to patients at the Medical Centre.
Minimum Requirements:
A mature lady / gentleman aged between 27 – 33 years with a
diploma/higher education, in Comprehensive Nursing or Registered Nursing with a
recognized institution. Additional training in midwifery is desirable.
At least 2 years experience in a modern medical
establishment/hospital. Knowledge and experience in basic nutritional practice
shall be an added advantage. Must be registered and incensed with Nurses and
Midwives Council
