JOB TITLE:SYSTEMS ENGINEER SDH

REPORTS TO: SYSTEM ENGINEER WAN TRANSMISSION

DIRECTORATE: TECHNICAL SERVICES

DEPARTMENT: NETWORK PLANNING AND INFRASTRUCTURE DELIVERY

DURATION: 3 YEARS

SALARY SCALE: NOF/N5

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To plan for the expansion, implementation and maintenance of the National Backbone Infrastructure and the Last Mile Network

KEY RESULTS AREA/ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Plans and designs connectivity of new services with optimal consideration for available capacity in terms of timeslots, frequencies, service interfaces, protection mechanisms, among others;

2. Plans and designs client access technologies to the NBI

3. Provides quality front line support for network users on a wide range of issues, including emergencies such as Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks, loss of connectivity and security issues.

4. Troubleshoots of all network and system related problems; and

(i) Maintains network user documentation including hardware/software applications, support logs and other related information;

(ii) Participate in the establishment of a disaster recovery/contingency plan for the network to address critical redundancy and scale issues

(iii) Participate in the development of a last mile blue print for the country

QUALIFICATIONS

·         A bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or Telecommunications Engineering is essential;

·          Demonstrated project Professional certification in SDH and DWDM technologies.

EXPERIENCE

·         Experience in Management and Maintenance of Huawei transport and Data Communication Equipment.

·         At least 3 years’ experience in the design, implementation and Management of Optical Switching Engineering.

·         Experience in Project management and Communication is essential.
