JOB DETAILS:
The Assistant Accountant shall be responsible for
maintaining proper invoicing and credit records of the students, as well as for
responding to all their queries regarding their financial obligations and
standing in the University. He/she will also be the official agent with the University’s
bankers as well as the immediate point of reference for the University’s correspondence
relating to the finances owed by and to the University.
Duties and
Responsibilities
ü
Performing clerical works in the Finance
department as might be assigned from time to time
ü
Filing account records and ensuring that they
can be retrieved and accessible to authorized persons whenever needed.
ü
Maintaining student’s ledgers and responding
to their queries.
ü
Ensuring that incoming and outgoing
correspondences are handled expeditiously.
ü
Preparing schedules for accounts receivable and
accounts payable.
ü
Monitoring advances and accountabilities in
compliance with regulations
ü
Maintaining sound accounting system, filing, and
accountability attached to payment vouchers.
ü
Attending to students’ queries and providing them
with statements of their fees.
ü
Assuring timely collection of monies due to the
University.
ü
Monitoring and reporting on deviations from the
University’s credit policy and regulations.
ü
Assuring timely and accurate invoicing for
students and for any other transactions in his/her competence.
ü
Conducting credit checks on all student’s
accounts as well as establishing and managing credit limits
ü
Making recommendations to improve the quality of
invoicing and collection procedures.
ü
Weekly reporting of invoicing totals/aging
totals/cash receipts/invoice adjustments
ü
Generating accounting statements and reports for
the Accountant.
ü
Researching cash receipts, coding, and posting of
receipts.
ü
Preparing daily bank and cash deposits.
ü
Developing both automated and hard copies of
financial reports using spreadsheet or any
ü
other format.
ü
Organizing and maintaining up-to-date financial
records.
ü
Participate in the annual stock-taking
ü
Providing monthly financial and management
reports.
ü
Carrying out any other duties as may be assigned
by the Supervisor from time to time.
Qualification,
Experience, and Skills
ü
A Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business
Administration/Management, or an
ü
equivalent relevant degree from an Institution
recognized by NCHE.
ü
At least level two professional qualification as
a certified public accountant.
ü
At least two (2) years of working experience in a
similar or related position in a reputable
ü
organisation, preferably in an institution of
higher learning.
ü
Proven experience in using automated accounting
systems and diverse accounting packages
ü
Excellent computer skills in MS Word, Spreadsheet, and PowerPoint.
ü
Outstanding interpersonal and communication
skills, both oral and written
