Role overview:
In December 2012 VSO entered into an agreement with the European Commission
to deliver a 4 year project entitled ‘Consolidating non-formal skills and
vocational training for job creation and poverty alleviation in Northern
Uganda’. This project aims to contribute to the Peace, Recovery and Development
Plan for Northern Uganda by supporting economic recovery of 2,800 vulnerable
youth (1,400 females, 1,400 males) aged between 14-35 years. The project will
be implemented in four districts: Kole and Oyam districts in Lango sub region
and Kitgum and Lamwo districts in the Acholi Sub region.
The project is implemented in partnership with Collaborative Efforts to
Alleviate Social Problems (CEASOP) and Agoro International Vocational Training
Institute (AIVI). VSO’s role in this partnership is to coordinate delivery of
this project and lead on activities to strengthen the management systems and
organizational capacity of these partners to implement project activities.
The main purpose of the placement is to:
• Objective 1: Support the development of organisational capacity of
CEASOP, a vocational training institution, to effectively deliver services that
meet the needs of youth to access employment;
• Objective 2: Support the development of programme/delivery
capacity of CEASOP to deliver relevant non-formal skills and vocational
training to 1,400 youth to help them to access employment;
• Objective 3: Work with CEASOP to develop employment, business and further training
opportunities for trained youth with various public and private actors
Skills, qualifications and experience required
• Organisational development experience
• People management / capacity building / training experience
• Communication skills – networking, IT, reporting, actively participating
in workshops
• Project planning
• Experience of working with teams of varied capacity
• Must be a self-starter
• Motorbike experience or willingness to learn
Desirable
• Enterprise development skills, particularly in a developing country
context
• Data analysis and reporting skills
Professional qualifications and experience:
Essential
• Degree in relevant field
• 5+ years of relevant experience
