information:
Uganda National Academy of Sciences (UNAS) is
an honorary membership organization that comprises of a diverse group of
scientists from physical, biological, social and behavioral sciences. Its
mission is to
generate, promote, share and use
scientific knowledge and to give evidence-based advice to Government and Civil
Society. UNAS provides unbiased, evidence-based trustworthy information that
can be used by policy makers, industry leaders, scientists, academicians,
donors and civil society for improving health and development in Uganda and the
world.
UNAS will be hosting the 10th Annual Meeting
of African Science Academies (AMASA 10) in November 2014 and wishes to recruit
a Coordinator, who will take lead in organizing and ensuring the success of
this meeting. S(he) will be working with the team at the UNAS secretariat. This
is a 14 months appointment.
Job
description
• Coordinate,
liaise and interact with the Local and International Organizing Committees
•
Provide back up and support to the above
mentioned committees.
•
Coordinate and offer support to the Consensus
Study Committee
•
Prepare background papers and technical
summaries
•
Assist in preparation of position papers and
any other documentation that may be required
•
Participate in relevant preparatory meetings
and conferences as may be required.
•
Provide support to the logistics team in
preparation of the relevant meetings.
•
Provide support and follow up on fund raising
initiatives.
•
Active participation in regular staff team and
oneto-one individual meetings; compile and share research / best practices,
learning experiences and ideas for the benefit of AMASA 10 and UNAS in general.
•
Any other duties that may be assigned and
delegated by the Executive Secretary
Personal
Specifications
•
Proven experience in organizational and
communication skills.
•
At least a Masters degree.
•
Good research background
•
Ability to communicate (verbal and written),
collaborate and possess networking skills.
•
Ability to write fundable proposals
•
Ability to meet deadlines.
•
Good diplomatic and interpersonal skills
•
High caliber of confidence, discretion and
time management
• Good
information technology skills.
