Background Information
Peace Corps (PC) is an agency of the United States Government,
which brings American volunteer development workers to assist Uganda in
capacity building and technical assistance activities. Education Volunteers are
assigned to government and non-government colleges and schools who partner to
enable Volunteers to provide capacity building in Education. Peace Corps also
aims to build cultural understanding between Americans and Ugandans. Both of
these positions are based in Kampala and require Extensive travel. See

Post Title: Education Program Manager
This
position is aimed at providing management and technical leadership in Education
as part of a national-level technical effort by Peace Corps to support primary
school pre-service and in-service teacher training through American Volunteers.
Key Duties
Develops and
maintains Peace Corps’ Education project that reflects and serves the needs of
Uganda. The duties include:
• Develops
and maintains ministry relationships to engage them in partnerships that
support Peace Corps programming. Conducts and coordinates periodic assessments
of host country and community assets and needs in conjunction with host country
officials and others.
• Develops
effective work place sites for over 40 American Volunteers and supports them in
all matters to ensure success at work and adaptation to life in Uganda.
• Works with
training staff as the lead technical Education specialist to design and deliver
training and identify others to ensure that the Volunteers are provided
training to achieve necessary competency levels.
• Provides
and coordinates the provision of technical information and related resources to
individual Volunteers and groups, such as Think Tanks, proactively or in
response to requests to assist Volunteers in carrying out their duties.
• Assists
the CD in establishing an overall vision and mission for the country program.
Provides input into the creation of the Post’s strategic and operational plans.
• Works with
other staff members to create uniform and complementary programming, training,
and administrative systems.
•
Participates in monitoring and evaluation activities and writes reports for
annual Planning and Budgeting process and Project Status Reviews.
Qualifications
• Master’s
Degree in Education.
• Experience
of at least five years of Education related work as a teacher, a supervisor,
tutor, curriculum specialist, headmaster, or other related education work.
• Excellent
computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet programs; excellent
command of English, both spoken and written; native ability in spoken and
written at least one Ugandan language.
• Ability to
work independently with little supervision; good organization and time
management skills; willingness to take the initiative; excellent teamwork
skills, strong service attitude; personal integrity; strong cross-cultural
skills; strong interpersonal skills, strong interest in Uganda’s development.
• Ability
and willingness to travel extensively [up to 50%].
• Ability to
work on a regular Monday through Friday schedule with evening and weekend hours
when necessary.
• Ability to
travel throughout Uganda as needed for implementation of the program and as in
line with the job.
• Also
looking for: excellent command of English, both spoken and written; preferable
skill also near native ability in spoken and written in at least one widely
spoken Ugandan language; ability to work independently with little supervision;
good organization and time management skills; willingness to take the

Post Title: Training and Organizational
Learning Manager
The aim of
this position is to create, manage and coordinate systems and staff and
Volunteers where innovative and effective international level training and
organizational learning flourishes.
This involves planning, systems and administrative
management of all training events for all Volunteer groups and to ensure a
systemic approach to incorporate learning into the organizational culture for
Peace Corps Uganda.
Key Duties:
• Leads the
training and programming team and other staff in designing and delivering all
training programs and curricula that meets learners’ needs for technical,
cross-cultural, language, health, safety and security incorporating
international headquarters and Uganda requirements for Volunteers, staff,
trainees, and home stay families.
• Works with
senior staff to develop skills and set resources and time to ensure quality and
holistic organizational processes to disseminate and adopt new learning by
staff and Volunteers.
• Develops
and acquires new training and organizational learning methods from a variety of
local and international development sources and implements those methods in
collaboration with staff under the leadership and guidance of the Country
Director and Director of Programming and Training and Director of Management Operations
to improve and enhance training programs and to contribute to the learning
culture of the organization.
•
Supervises, coordinates and manages the training unit staff, and temporary
training contractors.
• Creates
and manages training budgets.
• Directs and collaborates in the preparation of training
assessment criteria for trainees and trainers, including performance appraisals
for all learners.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Extensive
Training experience and managing conference training logistics for
international audiences.
• Experience
of at least eight years in progressively more complex roles in training and /
or organizational management preferably with an international, cross-cultural
organization.
• Skills in
organizational learning process to develop organizational knowledge structure
• Extensive
Management/leadership skills
•
Professional training and organizational development specialist with excellent
command of English.
• Ability to
work independently with little or no supervision; good organization and time
management skills; willingness to take the initiative; teamwork skills, strong
service attitude; personal integrity and strong interest in Uganda’s
development.
• Strongly
Preferred:
• Bachelor Degree in Human Resource or a Masters in
Education preferably Adult education or a Masters in Business Administration
preferably with a background in organizational behavior.
