Job Description
The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) is a public international organization (PIO) governed by an international board of directors with representation from developed and developing nations. The non-profit center focuses on increasing and sustaining food and agricultural productivity in developing countries through the development and transfer of effective and environmentally sound crop nutrient technology and agribusiness expertise. IFDC is recruiting staff for the 4-year CATALIST-Uganda Project, funded by DGIS through the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Kampala. The project aims to enable over 100,000 Uganda smallholder farm families to produce and market potatoes, cassava, rice and sunflower on a commercial scale.

    Job summary

 

    

 

    The Accounts Assistant, will be responsible for provision of administrative and financial management support for the project regional office . Reporting to the Finance Manager, s/he will be responsible for general administrative and logical support necessary within the project, ensuring that funds are spent compliantly and reasonable within the limits of pre-agreed budgets

 

   Specific Duties

 

o   Ensure that all project financial data are kept up-date and that interested parties get accurate and timely feedbacks/reports

o   Maintains files, including filing of general ledger journal vouchers, accounts payable documentation, and other miscellaneous filings

o   Types a variety of documents, reports, and records

o   Keys daily worksheets to the general ledger system

o   Maintains regular contact with other departments to obtain and convey information and/or to correct transactions

o   Provide early warning to management on financial and budgetary issues where variation authorization may be required

o   Provide accurate coding at transaction level to ensure that expenditure monitoring is accurate and data is captured in the right cost and sub-cost centers

o   Prepare draft financial reports to be reviewed internally, before submission to HQ/donors

o   Present Project Accounts for audit as and when necessary

 

    

Required Experience

 

o   Bachelor’s degree in a finance and accounting or relevant field, a Certificate in a in a profession course like ACCA, CPA,  will be an added advantage

o   At least two years working experience in a similar position with an international organization

o   Highly motivated, energetic, independent self-starter with strong communication skills

o   Excellent analytical skills

o   Proficiency in MS office (Word/Excel)

o   Demonstrate strong proficiency in accounting software packages

o   Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, time management and organizational skills

o   Ability to work under pressure, deliver quality results and meet deadlines

o   Honesty and integrity

o   Ability to work with people from different nationalities and backgrounds

o   Team player, flexible and adaptable to different work conditions
