SENIOR ACCOUNTANT (1 POSITION) AND LIBRARY ASSISTANT



Reports to: Institute Bursar

Salary Scale: UM3B

Job Information              

Uganda Management Institute (UMI) is a Management Development Institution with a mission “to excel in developing sustainable management capacity”.

It provides management training, consultancy and research services in response to the demands of the public, private, and NGO sectors.

In addition to short performance improvement management skills development courses, the Institute offers high quality career development management courses at Certificate, Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma and Higher Degree Levels.

The Institute’s activities are currently carried out at the main campus in Kampala and its Outreach Centers in Mbarara, Gulu and Mbale.

In order to carry-out its functions efficiently and effectively, the Institute seeks to recruit suitably qualified persons in the following full time posts:

 SENIOR ACCOUNTANT


a) Duties and Responsibilities:

(i) Preparation of budget reports

(ii) Overseeing and supervising staff outputs

(iii) Preparing and submitting management financial reports

(iv) Preparing statutory returns and reports

(v) Assisting the Institute Bursar in managing investments development plans of the Institute

(vi) Supervising the General Ledger

b) Person Specifications:

(i) An honors first degree of B.Com (Accounting) or BBA (Accounting) from a recognized University or Institution.

(ii) A Masters Degree in a relevant field from a recognized University or Institution.

(iii) A full professional qualification ie ACCA, CPA.

(iv) Reputable management and service record in accounting work in respectable organization or higher education Institution

(v) At least five years post qualification experience in accounting work, three of which should be at senior managerial level gained with a reputable organization or higher education Institution.

(vi) Well-developed interpersonal, communication, team building and analytical skills

(vii) Should be aged between 35 to 50 years.

5. PROJECTS OFFICER (1 Position)

• Reports to: Head Projects and Marketing Department

• Salary Scale: UM4B

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:

(i) Managing short courses of the Institute

(ii) Scanning the local and external environment for consultancy opportunities

(iii) Preparing bid documents in consultation with staff and external clients

(iv) Coordinating various projects undertaken by the Institute

(v) Writing quality reports

(b) Person Specifications

(i) An honors first degree in Development or related field

(ii) A postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management is required

(iii) Two years’ experience as Projects Officer in a reputable organization

(iv) Demonstrated ability to write, negotiate, manage, monitor and evaluate

project proposals (successful cases to be presented)

a. LIBRARY ASSISTANT-KAMPALA CENTRE (1 Position)

b. LIBRARY ASSISTANT-GULU CENTRE (1 Position)

Reports to: Head Library Centre Manager-Gulu

Salary Scale: UM6

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:

(i) Assisting library users in locating library materials

(ii) Processing the loaned and returned books

(iii) Sorting and shelving books and other reading materials

(iv) Tidying shelves and library furniture

(v) Maintaining library records and performing security checks

(vi) Opening and closing the library at stipulated times

(vii) Ensuring the security of library materials

(B) Person Specifications:

(i) Diploma in Library and Information Management from a reorganized Institution/University

(ii) Should have self-drive, should be results-oriented, versatile, customer-focused, innovative and a team player.

(iii) Should have two years relevant experience preferably from a higher Institution of learning.

(iv) Should be computer literate.


REWARDS AND OTHER TERMS OF SERVICE

(i) FULL TIME STAFF

Successful candidates will, on being confirmed in appointment, be offered five-year renewable contracts, a competitive basic salary complemented by housing allowance, medical allowance, transport allowance and an attractive gratuity scheme. Staff are also provided with support for continuous personal development.

(ii) PART TIME STAFF

Associate Consultants shall be paid an hourly time rate as per Institute’s policy. Successful candidates on being appointed serve two year renewable contracts.
