Reports to: Senior Accountant

Duty station: Kalisizo, Rakai

Rakai Health Sciences Program is a bio-medical research and service delivery collaborative initiative located in Rakai district, South Western Uganda. It strives to improve health outcomes of populations through a combination of community-based research, curative services, and prevention strategies. It is based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute-Entebbe and Kalisizo in Rakai District.

The program is seeking to strengthen its staffing position in order to efficiently execute its research and service activities. Applications are therefore invited from qualified and competent Ugandans to fill vacant positions based at Rakai Health sciences Program-KALISIZO, RAKAI DISTRICT as indicated below:-

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Financial management


  •     Maintaining/Improving where necessary systems of internal controls for all financial points at the station.
  •     Compile and analyze financial information ready to be posted into the system Post financial data in the system
  •     Verify contracts, orders, invoices, Delivery Notes, GRNs, and vouchers, to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement
  •     Provide technical support to the Logistics/Stores and Transport department systems.
  •     Facilitate both external and internal audits at the field station.
  •     Check payment requisitions and vouchers for: Accuracy, Compliance, Completeness, Arithmetic, Reasonableness, Integrity and Allocability prior to settlement.
  •     Produce and analyse financial reports for management and other stake holders’ use.
  •     Respond to public inquiries, maintain good sound public relations and solve related financial challenges.
  •     Perform any other duties as maybe assigned by the Program Director, Program Administrator and Grants and Finance Administrator.

Main purpose of the Job:

    To apply principles of accounting in analyzing financial information and prepare financial reports for the program.

Requirement:

    Computer knowledge with excellent use of Accounting packages more especially Navision
    Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services at a professional level
    High level of integrity with developed interpersonal skills and people management skills
    Five years experience in the accounting field, particularly in an NGO setting.

Required qualifications

    Minimum qualification of bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field from a recognized institution.
    Professional recognition through certification of CPA or ACCA is desirable
