VACANCIES ANNOUNCEMENT

Uganda Management Institute (UMI) is a management Development Institute with a mission to excel in developing sustainable Management capacity. It provides Management training, consultancy and research services in response to the demands of the public, private and NGO sectors. In addition to short performance improvement management skills development courses, the institute offers quality career development management courses at certificate, Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma and higher Degree levels. The Institute’s activities are currently carried out at the main campus in Kampala and its Outreach centers in Mbarara, Gulu and in mbale. In order to carry out its functions efficiently, effectively, the Institute seeks to recruit suitably qualified persons in the full time posts below.

1. HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (1 POSITION)

    Salary scale: UM2b
    Repots to: Director Finance and Administration.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

a)    Initiating and facilitating the development and implementation of Human resource policy.
b)    Coordinating the recruitment and selection of staff in order to ensure a timely organized and comprehensive procedure is used to hire staff.
c)    Managing the payroll.
d)    Providing support to line managers in the management of human resources.
e)    Over seeing the staff welfare in the Institute.
f)    Over seeing the human Resource plan and budget.
g)    Over seeing the human resource investments and development plans for the Institute.
h)    Monitor staff performance and attendance
i)    Provide information and assistance to staff, supervisors and council on human resource work related issues.
j)    Promoting the Human Resource function in the institute.
k)    Interpreting and advising on employment laws.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:
a)    Applicants should have an honors degree in Human resource Management or social sciences obtained from a recognized Institution.
b)    A master’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field from a recognized University/Institution.
c)    A relevant professional Qualification will be an added advantage.
d)    At least eight years relevant post qualification experience three of which should be at managerial level gained in the reputable organization.
e)    Well developed interpersonal, communication, team building and analytical skills.
f)    Should be proficient in MS office applications and internet/email technologies.


2. PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER (1 POST)

Salary scale: UM4b
Reports to: Director General.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

a)    Developing and implementing a public relation strategy for UMI.
b)    Ensuring that details of the Institute activities, appointments, events and awards are publicized and communicated appropriately to staff and wider community.
c)    Deciding on appropriate vehicle for communication including website, newsletter, email flyers and ensuring proper usage of all communication channels in the Institute.
d)    Dealing with the media on the behalf of the institute by researching, writing and distributing press releases or news items about the institute to targeted media.
e)    Liaising with the professional colleagues and key spokes people in the profession.
f)    Collecting and analyzing media coverage.
g)    Writing and editing in-house magazines, speeches, articles and an annual reports.
h)    Participating in preparing and supervising the production of publicity brochures, hand outs, direct mails, promotional videos, photograghs, calendars cards and multimedia programmers.
i)    Organizing events including press conferences, exhibitions and press tours.
j)    Maintaining and updating information on the institute website.
k)    Fostering community relations through events, visits and invitations.
l)    Managing the PR aspect of potential crisis situation.
m)    Managing and supervising staff under the pr office and ensuring strong culture of team work.
n)    Arranging and processing international travel for staff.
o)    Taking care of international visitors

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:

a)    Applicants should have an honors degree in mass communication or journalism from a recognized University/institution.
b)    Applicants with relevant postgraduate qualification will have added advantage.
c)    Should have at least three years relevant experience as a public relation officer at a senior level.
d)    Well developed interpersonal, communication, team building and analytical skills.
e)    Should be proficient in MS office, application and internet. /email technologies.
3. ASSISTANT SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR (1 POST)

Salary scale; UM4b.
Repots to: system administrator.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

a)    Inializing,monitoring and ensuring that IT systems are fully operational
b)    Maintaining and performing regular backups of system information and data.
c)    Maintaining documentations and inventories relating to IT resources and service.
d)    Identifying and reporting hardware and software malfunctions.
e)    Enforcing the institute’s ICT information security policies and standards.
f)    Assisting End Users (staff, participants and contractors) in using IT system.


PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:
a)    Applicants should have an honors degree in computer science or information technology or related IT field.
b)    Professional qualification in either networking or systems administration or Database Administration will be added advantage.
c)    A least two years relevant experience in a similar position.
d)    Working experience in LAMP/WAMP environments is required.
e)    Working knowledge of e-learning systems will be an added advantage.
f)    Should have good interpersonal and communication skills.



4REWARDS AND OTHER TERMS OF SERVICE:

Successful candidates on being confirmed in appointment be offered a five- year renewable contracts, a competitive basic salary complemented by housing allowance, medical allowance, transport allowance and an attractive gratuity scheme. Staffs are also provided with support for continuous personal development.
