manufacturers of consumer tobacco products rely on independent merchants such
as Alliance One to supply the majority of their leaf. As a result Alliance One
purchases tobacco in more than 45 countries and serves manufacturers of
cigarettes and other consumer tobacco products in over 90 countries. With its
global headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, Alliance One proudly
claims broad geographic processing capabilities, a diversified product
offering, and an established customer base, which includes all of the major consumer
tobacco product manufacturers. They select, purchase, process, pack, store,
ship, and, in certain developing markets, provide agronomy expertise and
financing for growing leaf tobacco. Alliance One’s revenues are primarily
comprised of sales of processed tobacco and fees charged for related services
to manufacturers of consumer tobacco products around the world. They do not
manufacture cigarettes or other consumer tobacco products.
Job Responsibilities:
1.0 Leaf Warehouse Operations.
1.1 Plans and coordinates the implementation of major warehouse maintenance
and upgrading projects as to meet Leaf function requirements within approved
budgets.
1.2 Ensures best storage and distribution practices for both tobacco and
farm inputs within all go-downs, via IFAS liaising with agronomy and the 3PLs
as per best practice.
1.3 Ensures infestation is kept at the minimum at all times within all
go-downs.
2. 0 Logistics Services
Plans, schedules and develops the most efficient transportation system
possible to move farm inputs and Green Leaf. This includes deciding the most
cost effective transportation means that maximizes efficiency and avoids
redundancy and waste.
2.1 Coordinates with field Logistics staff, to support timely delivery of
tobacco as per the drawn schedule.
2.2. Supports the buying team during the leaf buying operations.
2.3 Supervises the DHL staff on site during their day to day operations.
2.4 Coordinates and supervises the loading of Green Leaf to Thika GLT.
2.5 Monitors stock movements and stock levels in and out of the warehouses
( Inputs and Green Leaf).
2.6 Manages fuel stock level and accountability for the CPP fuel card.
2.6 Coordinates stock- taking activities at the CPP.
2.7 Arranges transportation and forwarding services for all orders to
ensure materials are delivered as per schedule.
3. Equipment Maintenance.
3.1 Plans and coordinates the maintenance of service equipment like
generators, Forklifts, Trolleys, Tractors etc., to meet the required standards
at optimal cost.
4. Facilities and services.
4.1 Ensures that warehouses are provided with needed utilities at optimal
cost.
4.2 Ensures that the buildings are maintained at optimal cost.
5. Employee Motivation, training and development.
5.1 Ensures that direct and indirect subordinates are highly motivated,
through the development and implementation of adequate programs, in order to
enhance the work climate and productivity in the department in relation with
Alliance One Uganda's values.
5.2 Leads and motivates own team and ensures teamwork with other
businesses.
6. Environment, Health, Safety
6.1 Ensures that EH&S policies are adhered to in all the logistics
activities carried out on site.
6.2 Monitors the Environmental Hygiene for the CPP.
7. Reporting and communication.
7.1 Ensures full compliance with reporting procedures, further informs
management regularly about department plans, results, current and anticipated
issues, and recommends actions to address them.
7.2 Maintains optimal communication with all departments within the leaf
function in order to ensure proper transfer of the information necessary to
manage the warehouses and achieve all departments’ objectives.
8. Procurement coordination.
8.1 Creates all purchase orders with external vendors.
8.2 Maintains a record of all outstanding purchase orders with external
vendors.
8.3 Expedites all critical orders with local subcontract vendors.
Requirements:

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in
Logistics or a business related field;
·
A minimum of 3 years experience
in logistics and Warehouse management relating to Environmental Health and
Safety (EHS);
·
Experience in agro industry is an
added advantage;
·
Excellent knowledge and use of
computer, especially using Spread Sheets;
·
Experience in managing several
concurring projects (several weeks to several months).
