Job Description:
The Head Systems will be responsible for ensuring proper operation of all
software systems/applications used to facilitate various University business
processes that are accessed on the University’s computer network or on
stand-alone computer systems.
Responsibilities:
·
To coordinate all systems related
activities and supervise the systems team.
·
To provide periodic updates to
the directorate with regards to developments in systems administration
technology and recommend ways to take advantage of them.
·
To develop new system and
application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to
ensure operational reliability.
·
To develop procedures, programs
and documentation for backup and restoration of host operating systems and
host-based applications.
·
Ensure high availability and
acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host computer resources.
·
Responsible to ensure that
adequate data security procedures (in line with the DUIS information security
policy) are followed in order to protect systems and data from unauthorized use
and abuse.

To assess and cater for all
training needs of technical staff and end users and ensure the optimal
utilization of all software in use by the staff and students of the university.
·
To work with software solution
providers for the smooth running, deployment, upgrading and maintenance of
university software systems.
·
Any other official duties and
responsibilities as assigned by the Manager, University ICT Service and/or
Technical Manager.
Preferred Skills:
Qualifications:
A Masters Degree with a bias in
Information Systems from a recognized Institution of Higher Learning.
Certification in MCSA, MCAD or
MCSE will be an added advantage.
Must have a good Bachelor’s
Degree (at least 2:1) in Computer Science or Information Technology from a
recognized Institution of Higher Learning.
Experience and Key Competencies:
At least three years proven work
experience in systems design, programming and systems software and support post
Masters Degree.
Must be self motivated
Must be a committed and
practicing Christian
Knowledge of:

Programming languages and operating
systems;
·
Current equipment and
technologies in use; Unix system administration, enterprise backup and recovery
procedures and system performance monitoring tools;
·
Effective project management
techniques and principles and practices of project management and supervision.
·
Ability to: Plan, organize and
document system design activities and to configure systems to be consistent
with institutional policies/procedures; Communicate technical/complex
information both verbally and in writing;
·
Perform multiple tasks
concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively.
