Limited (NHCC) was founded in 1964 and is a Ugandan construction and real
estate management company, partly owned by the Uganda Government. The Company’s
mandate is to increase the housing stock in the country, rehabilitate the
housing industry and encourage Ugandans to own homes in an organized
environment.
Job Summary:
The Senior Building Services Engineer will technically
advise about, design, install, and maintain cost-effective and energy efficient
systems for building services such as water, electrical lighting, heating, air
conditioning, lifts, and telecoms; and in accordance to established procedures
and best practices.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
·
In charge of
assessing the electrical and mechanical installation requirements as part of
site analysis.
·
Responsible for
designing the layout of energy distribution, cold & hot water supply pipes,
waste water / sewage drainage systems and ventilation systems, giving
presentations and writing reports highlighting the practical implications of
the architect's designs.
·
Also,
responsible for drawing up plans, cost estimates, writing briefs and reporting
on progress
·
Oversee and
guide Foreman, electrical engineering assistants and plumbers to ensure that
electro-mechanical works are properly set out for contractors in a timely
manner at every critical stage of construction.
·
Ensure that
proper electrical & Mechanical workmanship and adherence to
specifications/designs at construction sites are done.
·
Ensure timely
requisition of electrical & Mechanical materials from stores and that
material wastage is kept at a minimum.
·
Ensure Health
and Safety compliance by the work force are enforced, as well as ensure clean
and safe working environments and working conditions, energy efficiency and
other sustainability issues.
·
Interpret
electrical & Mechanical drawings and specifications, as well as prepare
relevant working sketches, as and when required.
·
Carry out
measurement of contractors’ work done for purposes of payment.
·
Negotiating
contracts with external design consultants and contractors,
·
Provide the
Company’s Management, whenever necessary, with relevant specialist, expert and technical advice (on the basis of
appropriate and comprehensive analysis and evaluation), with regard to the
Company’s investment opportunities and projects – especially those involving
Partnerships, External Contractors and other Service Providers – as well
provide the necessary supervision, quality
assurance, facilitation and
coordination of the implementation of the corresponding projects – with a view to
ensuring their profitable success.

Perform any
other duties as may, from time to time, be directed by the relevant authority.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·
The applicant
should possess a Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a closely
related and relevant discipline, from a recognized University.
·
At least five years
as a Building Services Engineer, or in a similar position, in a large and
reputable Construction, or Civil Works Company, or reputable Consultancy firm,
or on any other large civil works project.
·
Full and valid
membership of a nationally, or internationally recognized professional
Engineers’ Institute, or body, such as MUIPE, is a must.
·
Specialized
training, with appropriate qualifications in Project Planning and Management,
from a recognized institution, are a must.
·
The incumbent
should preferably hold additional qualifications in Business Management, from a
recognized institution.
·
Proven
knowledge and skills in application of Engineering-related Software and MS
Office Packages (especially AutoCAD, Word, Excel, MS Project, and PowerPoint),
are essential.
·
Significant
experience in working with public, or private sector organizations involved in
housing-related projects, or programs, shall be an added advantage.
·
Proven
negotiation and communication skills.

·
Cost
consciousness and proven ability to pursue value for money.

Good project

Excellent

minimal supervision.
